As a result of excessive amounts of Alum sludge being produced from our WTP I am researching the potential for a reduced solids volume by extracting the Alum before solids settling. The recyclying of the Alum is a consideration however a decrease in sludge disposal costs is of more financial concern.
At this point I understand an acid such as sulphuric or hydrchloric may be necessary for separation of solids. The use of a low pH polymer may also be required to aid in this process.
If anyone has had any experience in trialing such a technique or knows anyone who has could you please point me in the right direction?
