Hi...

I am an I&C engineer and working for small capive power plant being under construction.
Project decided to apply air blowing for steam line considering tight schedule.

We installed target plate at the end of pipe line before silincer and got good results.
Few article was found. Furthermore we feel that air velocity was enough since matal target
plate was bent seriously due to strong air blowing force. However we wanted to verify calaulated
air velocity be means of temporary installation of a flow meter at 18" pipe line.

While air pressure decrease from 10 to 6 barg after opening of quick open valve, it is about 30 secs,
we observed max. 30 kg/sec flow rate which is only 1/3 comparing calculated 90 kg/sec at max. pressure.

Afterwards I found that flow rate were generally not measured for most project which applied air blowing.
In this connection, we need proper explanation why we couldn't read calculated value and/or doesn't measure
flow rate for air blowing.

Your kind and valuable advice would be highly appreaciated.

forget air blows in such a large system, even steam blows take all the steam you can get

Thanks for your attention...

However I need explanation why we couldn't read calculated value and/or doesn't measure flow rate for air blowing.

What technology is the flow meter?

Did you record the flow rate? Can you post the graph?

GE product, vortex type, mass flow meter was used.
Unfortunately graph is not available.

Frankly speaking I have no doubt about instrument reading, but focused my attention on the way of verification
since I never heard flow rate measuring in addition to target plate for verification of sucessful air blowing.
In other words, I want to know whether flow measuring is acceptable method for CFR verification and proper
reason if it is not.

I suspect your vortex flowmeter restricted the flow.
