Hi,
I have created a simple cantilever beam with a load at the tip (no selfweight). I applied a joint force in only z-direction and ran response spectrum. I also clicked second option("from loads")from Mass Source. I'm just wondering if the joint force is divided by gravity and apply the mass in all 3 directions. or Do I need to apply joint force in all 3 directions with same amount to capture the mass effect(for instance, global x=10kip, global y=10kip and global z=10kip)?
I have ran those two cases, but it seems it dumps the same results.
Another problem is that second case gives me wrong support reaction in x and y direction when running only dead load.
I appreciate your help in advance. Thanks.

If you assign a load in gravity directions and convert load to mass, SAP will assume mass in all 3 directions. If results look off, you might adjust the number of frame output stations if your frame section is short.

Your issue with support reactions is impossible to know without seeing the model. Did you send to CSI's technical support? their email is support@csiberkeley.com

Hi!

SAP2000 will assume the self weight of the element too (converted to mass). So you must check out the "Mass per unit volume" and "Weight per unit volume" in the material properties dialog box.

About the 3-directional mass movement... take a look at the image that I attach. I think that you will get the idea :)
