Hi we just recnetly updated to NX 8.0.3.4 and I am looking at taking our NX6 custom symbols and pulling them into NX8. I made a copy and added them to the :\CONFIGURATION\UGSNX8\UGII\SYMBOL folder rebooted and no luck. My enviro file points to this directory. UGII_SYMBOL_LIBRARY_DIR=${UGII_CONFIG_DIR}\UGSNX8\UGII\SYMBOL\ What am I doing wrong?

When you go to your install root for NX you will find a folder in UGII "C:\yourlocation\NX8.0\UGII\symbol\install_tool" in there is a tool which you can use to install your custom symbols to the correct directory. There is also a userguide in there.

nutace, That tool worked great for getting the bundled symbols installed. We have a library of drafting symbols we have created in NX 6 which I would like to import to nx 8 how do I take care of this?

I think it is in the manual which you will find in the same folder.
But if I remember correctly you need to create a zipfile first which holds all your symbols.

This seems to work to added the folders to the symbol but no file show up in the reuse library. I think I need to refile the part files since we're moving from nx 6.0 to nx 8.0 but not having much luck getting the refile to work. Tried numerous switches to the folder but seem to be getting a pattern data lost error message.

Hi...

Loosing pattern data is normal when you refile patterns.
If you have refiled them you need to open the patterns one by one, fit the pattern ( this is mandatory otherwise it's not created correctly) , and in save options set "save pattern data" to the correct choice.
Unfortunately refiling sets this option to No (or rather removes any setting which was applied to your patterns).
Then save the pattern.

As refiling patterns is kind of a tedious work it is normally advised to skip patterns when refiling.

The fact that they aren't showing isn't caused by them not being refiled..I would find that very strange if it was the cause...

I would look at your folder structure. is it properly defined in the customer defaults? (gateway - reuse library - general)
