Does anybody have any friction data for acme screw threads? I have a 1/4-16 double lead screw thread and want to compute the torque required to move the screw.

Our company provides Excel based software that calculates characteristics of ACME threads.

In addition, if you enter a coefficient of friction, it will calculate a drive efficiency, and a back drive efficiency. This can be used to calculate the torque you are interested in.

Email for demo : webgear@home.com

or visit our website <A HREF=" TARGET="_new">

I know how to calcaulate the required torque. My question is, what friction coefficient should I use? The screw is steel and the nut is bronze.
Bob Kennedy
BobK@tdsdesign.com
<a href= Design Services
Visit our web site for "How to design a gear pump" tips!

Last time I wrote some sites. I think you will find a program with DATABASE.
By the way the Lubricated Bronze-Steel friction coeficient is appr.: 0.16

Irwin

The coefficient of friction will depend on whether you have cut threads, or rolled threads, and depends on the lubrication used.

In general, a greased rolled steel thread with a steel nut (tapped thread) would have a coefficient of friction of approx. .13. Using a brass nut with a tapped thread would be about .11.
