Acetic acid inelt flow low alarm necessary

I am sorry to bother this silly and trivial.

Does it is necessary that process engineer provdie low flow alarm/setpoint for this mass flow meter

considering the following process, "the acetic acid flow into the reactor"?

Also, a client requires the readout on the DCS, process engineer should requested to provide accumulating flow readout data

so that control engineer can calculate the flow at requried base condition.

It seems that mass flow with low alarm don't make any sense to me cause there is no dangeours for this reaction when the acetic acid is out of.

Could anyone expert can explain this?

And what about the wasted time and money and reactants? Alarms are not just about safety. After all, you probably use a microwave oven that beeps when it's done. There's no safety problem there, right? But, cold food and wasted time reheating are certainly worth avoiding.

The low flow alarm may be requested for:

1) Loss of flow may damage the pump. If there is low flow, the pump may be running without product, damage the seals, and create a big problem.

2) Loss of Acetic acid may not cause safety concerns in the reactor, but could affect quality. The lower quality product can not be sold and the company may loose a lot of money.

3)Loss of flow may indicate a loss of containment (Pipe broken). Not good for the process or people either!
