utility power source 380/220 vac, 3 phase, wyn 50 hz with neutral. Question-is the neutral normally grounded in countries outside of the USA, such as the middle east for this type of power.

The Continental Europe had this as a standard for many years while the UK had 415/240 V 50 Hz. Europe now has "harmonized" voltages and has 400/230 V 50 Hz througout. All these systems have a grounded neutral (TN-C) with a few exceptions. Norway being one that I am aware about.

The Middle East has inherited the 380/220 V TN-C and it is very common. But there might be exceptions.

Consult and similar sites for more information.

Thanks for the information it gives me a better understanding of this system.

Oops, sorry about that. Was going to delete the link before posting. (redundant)

To complete the answer to your question, you should be advised that in USA and Canada the most commom low voltage distribution level is 208/120 V, 60 Hz. The utility provides for each of their residential customers two phases and a neutral, and the residential wiring is designed such as the appliances are to be fed phase-to-phase (208 V) while the rest of the receptacles are phase-to-neutral (120 V).

vic3fan, the vast majority of US and Canadian residential services are 120/240V; two phase conductors 240V between them and a neutral at the mid-point. The use of two phases of a 208Y/120V system for residential is generally confined to multi-dwelling buildings that would have needed something more that 800A of 120/240V.

The equipment for the project I am working on will require being powered from 380/220 vac 50 hz. I need to know more specifically information for dual rated 50 hz and 60 hz equipment and loads used on this system.
