2nd speed reducer 1

For a 56c 1725 rpm 1hp motor, we have a 60:1 motor mounted speed reducer. We would like to go to 100:1 but are having trouble finding one. Anyone have any qualms about going 20:1 motor mounted with a 5:1 in-line after it?

War stories, tips, or thoughts are appreciated.

The only thing that I can mention is the efficiency which will reduce with two reducer so the input power needed will increase.

Are you certain you cannot get a suitable gearmotor?

My experience with a couple of gearmotor manufacturers tells me they will cobble up almost any combination of 2-, 4-, 6-, or 8-pole motor and gearset combination to provide a customer with his specified output shaft torque and RPM.

HINT: the catalogs list less than half of the possible gear ratio combinations available for a particular gearbox size and motor size. Call the distributor and tell them your gearmotor specs, they'll call the manufacturer to get the correct item to suit your needs.

Already have the motors. This is for six identical setups and unfortunately the motors are sitting on the skid on the shop floor....we are looking into the other options (such as whole new setups), but want to make sure the 'use the motors we have' stone has been well turned.....

Cleveland can do you an 80:1

alternatively if you only use 0.6 hp they can do you 100:1

as to ganging two in a row, no reason not to, if your second one, and the intermediate coupling, can handle the torque, and you've got room.

Well, then, if you have the motors already...that's OK I guess. If you are prepared to purchase new gearboxes, then my previous statement still stands. SEW Eurodrive will sell you gearboxes with C-Face mounts, coupling mounts, shaft inputs, all kinds of things to mount existing motors. I suppose Dodge will, too. And Nord, Falk, etc. Gear ratio availability is extensive.

But of course, you can double up with a second gearbox, no problem. Just do the math (which can usually be found in most gearmotor manufacturers catalogs). You should be calling somebody's Applications Engineering department to get straight answers to your questions.

You can also look at the Leeson line. They sell Ohio Gearboxes in 100:1 ratio, double reduction, first a helical gear, then worm gears. It is still a right angle drive, will bolt up to c-face.
