I'm looking to justify making control rods out of 2024 T3 tubing that were originally made in T42, I just cannot get the T42 in the tubing I need, and I'll need to justify the T3 for PMA. Any thoughts? Thanks guys

material properties are just about the same (he says without checking ...)

T42 is more malleable, but has "worse" material properties as such. Statically there wouldn't be a problem, but if your going to form the rods then you might encounter problems in the T3, you might crack it.

I already have the T3 tubing identical to the original T42; I've been looking for a chart that I can reference that will display the mechanical property simalarities/differances.

google mil-hdbk 5

or use the assist website ...
search for document # "5"
scroll down the hits to "mil-hdbk-5j"
open the document "5j" ... not the links with very small documents attached ...

good luck

Thanks rb1957, that's just what I needed, I owe you one.
