2003 BOCCA RESIDENTIAL BUILDING CODE 1

Does anyone know what the minimum depth a footing needs to be in or to meet the frost penetration depths of BOCCA RESIDENTIAL BUILDING CODE REQUIREMENTS?

Also how about maximum wall bowness in the concrete block walls. They are only 8'-4" in but bowing 1/2" at top of wall. i realize there going to be some deflection but there needs to be threashold.

Pleas attach parts of the code referencing these questions so i have on file.

Is there such a thing as a 2003 BOCA? I thought the ICC incorporated the ICBO, BOCA and SBC back in what? 1999?

JAE..you're correct. I believe 2000 was the first year of consolidation.

Ok for purposes of disussion. The code came out around 1999. Can someone send me information regarding wall plumbness requirements, and the requried footing depth for frost penetration depth?

Tim,
The footing depth is a locally governed issue. You need to check with the local building official as this is determined based on the climate of the area, not a model building code.

The tolerance for plumbness for masonry walls would be found in the MSJC Specification (ACI 530.1, ASCE 6, TMS 602), Part 3.

Variation from plumb
+/- 1/4" in 10 ft.
+/- 3/8" in 20 ft.
+/- 1/2" maximum

Alignment of columns and walls (bottom vs. top)
+/- 1/2" for bearing walls
+/- 3/4" for nonbearing walls.

Jae- thanks for the information. I did receive letter from building code stating it should be below 3' or if suitable material could be found. However, no one signed off on it so i got to go by code and normal foundation practice of 3'. I am located int Western PA.

Would you be able to scan these sections of the code applying to concrete masonry plumbness?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
