One other factor to remember when using 8020 type extrusions is many of the fastener types for those extrusions rely on friction. If you are generating a vertical load, there may be a possibility of the joints slipping and throwing off your parallelism between the two plates.
I'm far from an expert but you might want to check out the show "Engine Masters". It was on Motor Trend but you can probably find it on Youtube. The reason I mention it is because they did several episodes where they tested those very changes. One episode focused on exhaust system variables...
Not completely relevant but high power spring piston air guns can experience "dieseling" if excess oil is in the compression chamber. Some people think it's a way to get more power and intentionally put oil in the chamber but that comes at the expense of damage to seals and other components.

Can you use Clecos to locate and hold the parts together for welding? If so, you would only have a 1/8" hole to fill. We do that on large sheet metal cabinets we make. We don't to the fabrication, but the holes are in the design per suggestions from the fabricators.

Questions:
1. What happens when the beam slips the catch? Does the beam suddenly drop?
2. How far does the loaded beam fall? A 2000lb load plus the weight of the beam itself is substantial.
If you want a beam fixed translationally but free to rotate on one end, your beam will need a pinned...
Questions:
1. What is the application?
2. What type of material?
3. What is the gage of sheet metal?
These questions will help guide you in selecting the type of fastener. As mentioned above, there are screws specifically for sheet metal and there are process options for the metal itself...
Hello,
What type of ring are you wanting to machine? Is this a ring for an industrial application or is this jewelry?
What type of material do you want to use? Every material has different machining characteristics.
What type of lathe do you have access to? Is this a smaller bench top...

"kjoiner - applying pressure to both sides is how gas struts work. The piston moves because the pressure on the rod area is unopposed by the outside atmosphere. Gas struts have a hole in the piston to allow material to flow from one side to the other, through an orifice to control the...
@Uncanny3
I think you are missing some information on pneumatic cylinder construction. The two ports feed to either side of the piston. The rod is just a way to transmit the motion of the piston. If you apply pressure to both ports, the piston will not move.
Here is a cutaway of a cylinder...
My HP48GX died a few months ago after 32 years. For several years, however, I've used an HP48GX app on my android phone. I haven't fully explored everything the app can do but have not run into any roadblocks. If you like RPN calculators, I've been pretty happy with it. It even looks like...
Hello,
LittleInch -There is no such thing as "International countries"...."
You are correct. Basically, I want to be compatible with countries outside of the US and Canada where voltages and frequencies are different.
I will be working closely with our testing lab to evaluate performance...
