    EE exam topics

That was the job I saw when I searched for what you posted. If you were able to get on with this position it sounds like it could be good. I think you would learn a lot. Here are a few links for some calculations you will encounter: http://ncalculators.com/electrical/kva-calculator.htm...

    EE exam topics

Good for you. I think I searched and was able to find the job you are testing for. I was a little confused as the job description appears to lean toward the MEP environment but there is also mention of generation, transmission, and distribution. I assume this is with a power company that...

Anyone use Alfa Transformers before or Mexican-built units?

I have never heard of this manufacturer before. I looked at their website and didn't see any information about when they started in the industry. Normally that is something I would think most companies would like to share, that is if they have being in the industry for some time. In looking...

    Tranformer selection, sizing, and calculations

As was mentioned when you submit your building load information, the utility will perform calculations to ensure they provide a transformer adequately size for your needs. They will apply quite a bit of diversity and plan for the future what size the transformer needs to be. They like it when...

Grid tied PV inverter sync and backup sources

This may not be what you are looking for but I think it is pertinent: http://enphase.com/wp-uploads/enphase.com/2011/03/Enphase_White_Paper_DC_Connectors.pdf I think the Enphase website has some additional information.

Re-commissioning old oil filled transformers after 20 years - Is there anything to look out for?

bdn, Based on what I understand the voltage ratio between any two windings should be within + or -0.5% of the value indicated on the nameplate. I wasn't sure of what environment the transformer was in or if there was some fault on it while it was in service some years ago. I certainly think...

Re-commissioning old oil filled transformers after 20 years - Is there anything to look out for?

Based on what I saw, a transient and low-frequency dielectric tests would be appropriate due to the inactivity of the described unit. I would think a megger test would also be appropriate. I would think testing the connections and conducting a turns ratio test would be appropriate. It is good...

    Terminating Oversized Cables

Might you be able to us some connectors from here: http://www.polarisconnectors.com/ I would be interested in hearing if the disconnect switch manufacturer may have some additional suggestions.

    Difference Between ELCB and ELR+CBCT

Transmission Tower Lightning Protection and grounding

Very good question and unfortunately my response will probably not be commensurate in technical content. When I think of lightning protection what comes to mind is providing a way to dissipate lightning discharges and surges into the ground. And based on my knowledge we will use conductors...

    Continuous Rating on Fused Disconnect

Jraef would be correct if meant all circuit breakers are fully rated for operation in free air at their listed maximum ambient temperature. Not all circuit breakers will be fully rated if applied in enclosures, which Wroggent alluded to. Of course all LVPCB's are fully rated. Some MCCB and...

    Branch circuit or Feeder ?

Thanks jmbelectrical for that tidbit of information. I see that the state of FL requires this. Good to know. I thought this was interesting: http://www.floridabuilding.org/fbc/dec_statements/2007_DEC_Statements/DecStatements/2007code/DCA09-DEC-269/DCA09-DEC-269-Bhamani.pdf

    Branch circuit or Feeder ?

Per the NEC,what you described would be a feeder. I thought the total 5% voltage drop fine print note can be any combination between branch and feeder as long as the total voltage drop was no more than 5%.

Study in One, Practice in Another?

I know of a couple degreed chemical engineer who are licensed as mechanical engineers in the building construction industry. Both are very successful and professionally respected in their respective post. I also know if a degreed electrical engineer who is licensed as a mechanical engineer in...

Unfortunately I do not. I was reading the Eaton Blackout tracker and snakes, squirrels, and racoons were also culprits.
