    Designing a spiral stirrer

One possible option, which may or may not work for your application, is to install a recirculation loop in the process. It would draw from the bottom outlet valve, thru a pump and back into the tank thru a sparger that is angled to create a vortex. Make sure to position the outfeed of the...

    Revesring the Escalator Direction

Some escalators are reversed on a daily basis, for instance to cope with increased one-way traffic such as morning and evening commutes. That said, I agree with dvd, get the escalator rep to ok it. It could be your escalator isn't built for reverse direction.

Small Manual press to stamp cork plugs??

Punching 1500 plugs by hand? Will this be something you'll need to do once in a blue moon, or every X number of days? Replace that arbor press with a simple air cylinder, a mounting bracket and toggle valve. Why do grunt work when your air compressor can do it for you?

Small Manual press to stamp cork plugs??

My Clippard catalog shows several examples of tabletop automated cylinder and arbor presses that one can build using Clippard parts. Cylinders, valves, pneumatic controls, support fixtures, its all there. Their website does not show these assemblies, but I bet if you give them a call they may be...

    general engineering

On the walls of my office are several hand drawn prints dating back to '89. Each show the P&ID of several 2000L vessels. In the corner of each drawing is a section view titled "scrap elevation". These views show the plumbing layout directly behind the vessels, something a normal elevation or...

Material choice for 1.25" threaded fastening

If feasable, I would suggest you look into using a threaded insert for the female piece. This is based on my own experience, where mating aluminum parts were stripped because of reasons you've already stated (over torque or lack of lubricant).

Friction increase after coffee and coke spilling?

You need more data. Take a 500ml bottle of Tucher Bajuvator Double Bock. Pour a small amount on the latch. Consume the rest. Wait two minutes. Test the latch's coefficient of friction. Test your own coefficient of friction. Repeat until the latter falls below zero.

    Hydraulic Cylinder Design

Just curious, why the decision to do it yourself rather than a dedicated cylinder manufacturer? They have all the engineering already worked out and components readily available.

Entrained air removal from viscous paste in drum or pail

ERT, Check out Graco pumps: http://www.graco.com/Internet/T_MainSite.nsf/Webpages/StartPage I used to work for a company that did contract packaging on form/fill/seal machines, and on occasion we would run products such as ointments, heavy lotions, etc. We used their sanitary drum unloaders to...

I agree with MH, revisit your transfer ops as it sounds like this may be the root of your problem.

Calibration of pressure vessel load cells

At our facility we have ten 3750-liter pressure vessels. Each has 4 legs which in turn rest atop 4 load cells. Currently we have Mettler Toledo calibrating these load cells, but at $18-20K per tank x 3 visits a year this has become far too expensive. The brass has asked what it would take to do...

    Pipeline Leak Detecting Vultures?

All you need is an actual carcass above ground, big enough that the sight and smell overcomes anything else in the area, and soon the vultures will no longer find davefitz's pot roast all that appealing.
