Max drill depth for dowel pins

You only need 1.5D to 2D depth for a viable positioning dowel joint.
  2. TheTick

    Miniumum wall thickness

Put a smaller diameter gage pin in the groove and measure across with caliper.

    General tolerances on a drawing

Seems like fabricating is just about anything but casting and machining.

Fatigue with signed von Mises stress

I'm glad someone smarter than me said what I was thinking.

Dimensioning - Extension line weight when printing

This may be a mapping issue in your print/plot settings.

Tolerancing Slots From an Angled Datum

Also looks like a good application for dual tolerance, one to control shape at a tight tolerance relative to A or A|B, and a looser tolerance for location A|B|C.

    Windpower Generators

It's not drag so much as each blade's wake causing interference with the next. There's are tradeoffs between speed, number of blades, and weight. The ultimate boogeyman is the Betz limit. There is a theoretical maximum amount of energy that can be extracted from a given cross-section of wind...

digits on basic dim and the tolerance

If you're making this determination based on the requirements of the design fit and function requirements, fine. If you're making this determination because that 0.05mm "doesn't seem like a lot", you need to step away. [bat]Honesty may be the best policy, but insanity is a better defense.[bat]...

digits on basic dim and the tolerance

Basic dimensions are exact, ideal dimensions. They have no tolerance, therefore no tolerance or precision is implied by decimal places. Trailing zeroes are implied and infinite.

NX modeling principal plane of an assembly too stretched

The problem is that someone somewhere decided your default should use three default planes instead of a single absolute CSYS. Incompetent people are everywhere. Some make CAD templates.

    Tangent Line as datum

Consider going the opposite direction: Use holes as datum and control slot and profile. Final GD&T does not necessarily need to follow order of operations for manufacturing (which may or may not correspond with actual part function).

    German Prints - No GD&T ?

EVERY German drawing? I've been to Germany. It is a big place. Many people. Many companies, some of which are undoubtedly creating engineering drawings.

    Job Interviews, a decision moment

Keeping your $#!+ together when it is not together is a powerfully daunting task. Like most things in life, it happens one little thing at a time. How does a piranha eat a pig? One bite at a time. Be a piranha, not a shark. Bonus if you can find some piranha buddies to help you.

    Job Interviews, a decision moment

As CWB1 said, be direct. Be clear. Most of all, ANSWER THE QUESTION. As an interviewer, one of the biggest red flags is if the candidate does not understand the question or (worse) understands but gives a deflecting answer. Anyone might ramble when they are nervous. I try to give some leeway...

Change combustion engine by electric motor

I worked on electrifying Jacobsen turf mowers in the 1990s. Some of the electric tractor patents in our knowledge portfolio dated to the 1930s.

Change combustion engine by electric motor

Good point. Add variable frequency to the list of control options.

Change combustion engine by electric motor

Respectfully, that seems a very narrow view of how electric motors operate and are controlled. There are other ways to control motors, and there are certainly many other types of motors. AC motors have a peak speed tied to their frequency and poles. But they can and do go slower, and find a...

Change combustion engine by electric motor

Really? I understand the opposite to be true. Especially for diesel.

Combine or Merge Faces for analysis

Are they different surfaces? Or is it a single surface that is cut up and fragmented? If it is just a fragmented surface, you can use delete face or replace face to combine fragments.
  20. TheTick

Combine or Merge Faces for analysis

You can turn the faces into facet bodies, then make a best-fit B-surface out of them.
