    0-80 thread on a ..450 pitch diameter?

I'm designing two thin-walled parts that are to be threaded together. I don't have enough wall thickness for standard thread, so I'd like to use a 0-80 UNF thread profile on a Ø.450 pitch diameter. I've been able to 3D model the external and internal threads, but how do I specify such a thread...

    Drafting standard for DATUM appearance?

Does anyone know how to change the ANSI drafting standard settings to get my Datum callouts to look correct? Currently the Datum has a dash before and after the letter. I just want the letter in the square (no dashes), with a triangular base. Please see the attached picture. (CATIA V5)...

how to hide lines on SW drawing

In order to dimension angles on my drawing, I often just draw a Horiz or Vert line that I can build the dimension from, See circles in attached figure. But how can I hide those lines? And how do I hide the blue axis in each view...

error with Reference Dimension Parentheses macro

I copied Ricky's macro from this post and pasted it into a new macro I created. https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=363662 but when I run this macro I get a error message about a scripting error 1002 (see attached image). Any suggestions on how to make it work? (I'm just a drafter -...

    Topology article question

Ferdo just included a link to an interesting CATIA article describing "topology" and several other things. https://www.maruf.ca/files/caadoc/CAATobTechArticles/TopoConcepts.htm#Manifold Is this from the CATIA V6 documentation or maybe the 3DEXPERIENCE documentation? (The reason I ask is...

Unable to do Full Text Search in online documentation

Lately I haven't been able to search in the CATIA V5 online help files. When I click the binoculars, the page changes but the search panel never appears. Everything else works fine. Do I have the wrong version of Java or another program?

    Secured CATIA files in SmartTeam

Can anyone explain what a "Secured Part" or "Secured Drawing" or "Secured Product" is in SmartTeam? We recently noticed a different icon when listing various CATIA files. The CATIA file icon contains a black key on the bottom, and when we hover over the icon, one of the above descriptions...

    Inertia Equivalents

I tried following the steps in the online CATIA Help files for Inertia Equivalents, but I'm unable to choose option 1 to use my mass values. Does anyone have any experience with this? Background: I have several purchased components in an assembly that I need to calculate the combined mass and...

How to model a wire mesh basket?

I'm stumped and need some help. I'd like to create a 3D model of a simple basket made from hardware cloth (wire mesh). The basket has a 6 inch diam (or hex shaped) bottom with sides that come up about 1 inch. I'm looking for a clever way to model the wires on the side with the bend on the...

    copy view with link

I know it's possible to copy a drawing view and paste it into a second drawing. But is it possible to do it with a link back to the original drawing? We have drawings containing common details with the exact same views and dimensions and annotations. We expect many changes and would like to...

is the UUID important for assemblies?

I've recently been told that a Part's UUID is used when copying assemblies. Can someone explain? Is it better to use SAVE AS or NEW FROM when copying an assembly and some (but not all) of the part instances? (I know how UUIDs effect drawing links)

Does anyone have good examples of the 3 different profile options for ribs and slots? (Keep Angle vs Pulling Direction vs Reference Surface) The help doc is good, but I'm looking for better examples.

By following Kapitan's instructions, I'm able to add images to my posts but only as attachments. I see some of you add adding images directly in the post - how do you do that?

    CATIA training from Ascent

I just stumbled across their web page, and I was curious if anyone has taken any CATIA classes from Ascent and what were your opinions. From the little bit I've seen, their course material looks pretty good but also a little pricey.

advantages to using Create Datum mode?

In a recent post, someone said they need to create geometry with CREATE DATUM activated. I read this to mean that their models are created with everything isolated and not associative. To me, that's wasting one of the biggest benefits of V5. What are the advantages to using CATIA this way?

    sketchless solids

We just came across a CATPart that contained several solid Pads that did not have parent Sketches as a sub-branch in the tree. When we edited the Pad, the profile field showed "Complex" We later discovered that many Part Design features can be made "sketchless" by using an existing face as the...
