Greetings,
We've been purchasing castings for years now which were not 100% inspected.
We've since added some additional inspection to a few features and are now finding non-conformnaces in these areas.
There is no risk as they have always been there, so this is merely a paperwork exersize...
Greetings,
There was a short part of my left where I specialized in injection molding.
Today I am holding a plastic cup, much like the image below, that has bubbles in it.
None of the bubbles are surface connected nor are they very close to the surface (I've tried to pierce them with a knife)...
I saw a CMM calibration report that had a W-Axis. Google failed me on this one.
It looked somthing like this (example):
SPEC AFTER
X-axis 0.005 0.002
Y-axis 0.005 0.001
Z-axis 0.005 0.003
W-axis 6A/S 3A/S
1) What is the W-axis? I assume it may be the...
Greetings,
We've switched our CHT (cylinder head temperature senders) to a better more reliable type.
However the connecting "eyelet" is solid copper (unknown grade/alloy), in contrast to our old ones that were zinc-plated steel (like the spark plug).
These copper eyelets just go around the...
Greetings,
I'm a mechanical guy so I wanted to make sure I'm understanding this right.
We are going to start using tablets as scanning stations to record job costing, inventory.etc (why tablets? I don't know, not my decision....)
Anyway, there will be quite a number of them which will never...
Greetings,
I was wonder how others dimension this.
Say you have 1.00 X 1.00 X 1/8 Square tubing, with a 1/4" hole in one side (but not through the opposite side).
When dimension the depth for the 1/4" hole, do you put the depth equal to the material thickness (i.e. 1/8 DP)? Or the depth to...
Greetings,
See the attached sketch.
I'm going to vastly simplify things to get down to the question.
I'm tasked with finding a nozzle (or nozzles) capable of "squirting" a fluid (lets assume its water) out to a distance of about 10 feet in a fairly uniform "flat" pattern. The contact area...
Greetings,
A while back I overhauled my current employers Technical Data System to bring it up to more modern standards and practices.
Part of this included revising the Title Block, which had been setup for use before any computers or electronic drawing management systems.
One of the fields...
Greetings,
See the attachment.
I've been refreshing my memory of Pro/mechanica (Wildfire 2.0) and have ran into an odd problem.
I've built 2 quick beams. One is straight across, the other (shown in the attachment) has a small section removed. I've been running buckling analysis on them.
The...
Greetings,
I've been trying to resolve an employee evaluation problem that I'm sure is common in any medium/large company.
At my company, employee evaluations are directly tied to raises. It starts once a year when, to leave out the complicated details, the accountant and the CEO decide on a...
Greetings,
A specific component I use is made of 400 denier Neoprene coated Nylon fabric and is in contact with the ground. It must remain flexible, relatively lightweight, and mostly impermeable to air.
Only a portion of the fabric is in contact with the ground, so ideally I only need to...
Greetings,
I encountered an issue today and I'm wondering how other places handle this.
I have a part that has been used for long time. It has now been significantly revised in such a way that the form, fit & function have changed. Therefore in accordance with our Technical Data System it...
Greetings,
I was wondering if someone could enlighten me on what exactly it is that a Validation Engineer does?
I get the whole IQ, OQ, PQ concept but how does one actually go about it?
How would you Testing Operator and/or manufacturer documentation for conformity?
Or how would you validate a...
Greetings,
I've attached a quick sketch.
Pretty sure I know the answer here but I thought I confirm with your opinions.
I've been given a drawing to check that looks like the top example. Now the shop made this (before it was checked) without a problem. However, we are going to outsource so I...
Greetings,
This is more of a drafting question I suppose, but it fits the electrical bill.
Has anyone seen, know, or have any examples of a detail drawing of a complex electrical harness. In particular one with multiple layers of heat-shrink (or similair) sealing various soldered connections...
Greetings,
I Would like to get some input on this subject.
Here at my work, the terminology is a bit askew.
Its is assumed that the definition of productivity is "physical output that has (or increases) resale value" --- and thus meetings, discussions & much "office work" is therefore...
Greetings,
Not going to go in much detail here. I've been given a profile and a length. See the attached sketch.
The idea is that the inner and outer walls will be highly finished surfaces. The outer wall will have gel-coat facing outward, the inner wall will have gel-coat facing inward...
Greetings,
I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on calling out for center drills....
A lot of the old drawings here at my workplace just say "#3 center drill" but from what I remember, they actually had to be called out as below (couldn't find the depth symbol)....
2X Ø0.21 [5.5] x...
Greetings,
I've been through drafting school (AS in Industrial Drafting) & Mechanical Engineering School (BS). I've always considered myself to be pretty good at drawings/drafting/blueprint reading.etc and have performed reasonable well
I work at a smaller Mfg. Company so I check all of...
Greetings,
I was just wonder what is the general duration manufacturing companies before doing a Physical inventory? We manage over 7000 different parts and would like to know how long they typically wait in the industry before they do a Physical inventory?
Are they at scheduled durations, or...
