What is a "Class C" Geotextile?

The state stormwater regs specify that geotextile must meet "federal department of transportation requirements for a Class 'C' filter fabric" beneath rip rap and as an interface between layers in infiltration treches. Where can I find the specs for a "Class C" fabric?

Time of Concentration - Time or Distance?

The Time of Concentration is often described as the time for water to travel from the "most hydraulically distant point". My Civil Engineering Reference Manual adds "timewise" to this definition. What is the general consensus out there? Do you use the path that gives the longest Time of...

Designing an orifice plate to restrict flow

I have designed an underground flow diffuser to recieve bleed off water from a cooling tower. I must restrict the flow of water to the diffuser to less than about 3 gallons per minute. I want to use an orifice plate to do this. The bleed line is tied into a pressurized pipe. The pressure at...

    Origin of Priority Pollutant Metals

Does anyone know where the list of PP13 metals originated? Is there some regulation or standard that defines them? For that matter, what is the origin of the RCRA 8 metals?

    Massachusetts LSP

This question is for MA LSPs. Is it realistic to become and LSP without any prior experiance in MA? (My experiance is in RI.) Technically experiance in MA is not required to become an LSP. However, is that practically true? Do I stand a chance passing the exam with no experiance with the MCP...

    QA/QC Policy

My civil engineering company is rapidly growing and it has become necessary to develop formal QA/QC policies. From your experiance, what are some good policies to consider? What are some bad policies to avoid? What are some good ways to implement the policies so they are adhered to? Thank...

Any recommendations for poorly compacted Asphalt?

A 4" thick (2" base/2" top coat) asphalt parking lot was constructed last winter in New England. Subsequent lab testing of core samples revealed air void content above DOT specs and compaction below DOT specs. Areas where the air voids are highest and the density lowest are visible on the...

Effect of surface surcharge on slope stability??

I need to evaluate the maximum amount of fill I can place near a 1:1 slope. I also need to evaluate various distances of the fill from the top of the slope. (for example: place 5 feet of fill 10 feet back from the top of the slope) How should I include the surcharge forces from the fill in...

    standard procedures for pre-construction survey?

Does anyone know of any standard procedures for conducting a pre-construction survey? The goal of the survey is to document the condition (existing damage) of buildings and property in the vicinity of an upcoming construction project. If there are no written standards, does anyone have any...

    peak instantaneous flow small development

I am working on a similar project to thread thread164-80061 , though much smaller, only 30 people in 24 units. Could Semo, or anyone else, tell me where the peak instantaneous flow equation (9*n^0.515) came from so I can reference it? Interestingly, this peak factor coresponds well with the...

    LAC lab method??

An RFP for a project in MA specifies LAC methods (ex, Cyanide LAC method 204001A). Can anyone tell me what LAC methods are and/or where I can find the methods? Thank you

How do I determine the fiber content in cured FRC?

My client suspects that the fibers are forming clumps when the fiber reinforced concrete is placed. I need to determine if this is the case. Are there any test methods available for determining the fiber content per area of concrete? Any suggestions or references are appreciated.
