I need to have in output the membrane forces in each shell element. In Nastran the command is ELFORCE, does anyone know if there is anything similar in ABAQUS? Thank you
Hi all,
I have a 3D mesh connect with rivets to a 2D (midsurface) mesh. I'm not sure how to model rivets in this case. If the case was 2D-2D I would create a RBE2 web for each hole and connect each central node to a CBAR. How this translates into 3D-2D?
Hi all,
Imagine have two plates are in contact and they're connected through bolts. The top plate is much stiffer than the bottom one.
Now,
At the bottom of the bottom plate there is a force applied vertically. Due to the presence of the top plate, the bottom will probably rigidly tilt but...
Can anyone suggest a book or paper that explains how NASTRAN uses the stress-strain curve (TABLES1 and MATS1) in case of non-linear analysis (SOL 106)?
I have a simple question about RBE, I need to know how they work:
let's say I have 2 surfaces on top of each other, both modelled with 2D quad element. The top has a very low thickness, 0.016 in (0.41 mm) and it's aluminum, the bottom is a slab of aluminum 1 in (25.4 mm) thick.
To model a...
Can I request plastci strain in nastran? Since the stress in my model goes beyond yield and I'm using a plastic stress-strain curve (input through TABLES1) I'm sure somewhere the model has plasticity but I can visualize it.
thank you
Hi all,
I am an aerospace engineer and recently I analyzed a complex structure and submit the report to the FAA for evaluation.
Some premises:
- the structure was in aluminum;
- I applied ultimate loads since it was a crash conditions;
- All the Von Mises results came back well below yield;
- I...
Hi,
never used accelerations before in Hypermesh. I have the full mode of an helicopter with some masses attached with RBEs. I want to apply ANGULAR accelerations to the CG and run an inertia relief analysis. Any way to do it? I also have the relative inertia factors (the "g"). Can't use GRAV...
I'm trying to compare the FE results with a hand calculation but I'm not having great luck yet.
I have a plate, 300 mm x 300 mm, (aluminum 72,000 MPa, v=.33), thickness 3 mm. An homogeneous pressure of 0.005 MPa is applied all over the plate. THe plate is fixed at every edge.
The FEM model...
Can someone explain me the difference between the 2 different param setting? I was able to make both run with no problem, I added SUPORT1 for INREL=-1 and nothing for INREL=-2 but I can't understand when I should one one or the other. THank you
I imported an FEM model from a .dat file that contains PSHELL, PBAR, PROD ecc. All the material properties are properly defined (there are a bunch of MAT1 and some Mat8) and they all have density. I added a couple of SPC and set up a sol 103 to check if any component of the model is loose. When...
I know this forum is related to NASTRAN (which I use as solver) but my problem is more related to Hypermesh.I have an extrude element of a rectangular shape (1.2 in x 40 in). One of the long edges has a bulb for out-of -plane reinforcement. I was told to model the rectangle as a 2D and the bulb...
I have a box made by six steel faces riveted to each other through angles. The box can be filled with up to 270 kg of sand. I need to do a structural analysis of the box. How would I simulate the pressure distribution of the sand inside the box? I though as a rough estimation it could be a sort...
Pretty new in writing reports and I have to check the bearing strength of a screw NASM24694. The document does not report the actual value of the shear strength, just the axial strength. Do I have to calculate the shear strength myself? Should I use sigma equivalent i.e. Von Mises?
Thank you
I need to plot the Failure Index of a composite laminate in HYpermesh. I set the paramters NOCOMP to 1. the solution runs smoothly but there is no trace of failure index whatsoever.
I know of the existence of this post but I can't still figure it...
Hi all,
I'm having trouble solving this problem. I have a pipe, on a certain section this pipe has a shear load and torque applied, they both generate shear stress on the same plane.
A is the point at the top of the pipe section (12 o'clock), B at 3 o'clock etc, C at 6 o'clock and D at 9...
I have a model with 66 components. When I solve it, the components become 10 and they are divided by property. This makes very difficult to select a single component for a better view.
Is there a possibility to keep the same components between hypermesh and hyperview?
Thank you
Hi all,
I've been using Nastran on and off in the last year, my FE software is hypermesh. I have a problem where my component is deforming enough to go plastic but it should be any close to ultimate stress. I need to re-run the analysis with a elastic-plastic model to be confirm this. I read how...
