We have been analyzing welding time on a job and found some of our welders were grinding out tacks and others welding over them. Obviously it takes a lot more time grinding them out. My question is, what is common and accepted practice?
I may mention this is 1554.1 GP work on pipe bridges. The...
I would like to know how the torispherical domes are made for pressure vessels. In particular we are quoting a 3,658m diameter vessel made out of 10mm plate, SA518Gr70. The dome has an upstand of 380mm.
I get more and more need to specify wear plate. Does anyone know where I can find a summary of the different kinds of wear plate available and applications, advantages/disadvantages. My application is mostly quarries, mining etc.
Thx
I am in an argument with a mobile machining company at the moment. We stopped the job because we felt the equipment they were using was not sturdy enough and severe chatter was visible during the inithial cut. They claim the equipment was suitable and the final cut would have provided a...
Some of my guys rarely finish a piping job with no leaks. Watching them they seem to over-fasten if anything. I read that fastening torque is important and came accross some sketchy info on a method of measuring the number of flats and also some tables specifying fastening torque.
What is the...
I am looking for a suitable tilt switch for a mobile scissor platform. In the past I have tried mercury switches but in the mobile application that tended to cause false alarms, presumeably due to the dynamic motion of the base vehicle and its effect on the mercury.
The platform advances slowly...
Does anybody in the forum have experience with hydraulic circuit design software. I would like to simulate operating conditions in complex circuits and get results such as flow losses, pressures and temperatures.
I am using a variable displacement pump to supply two variable displacement motors, driving via a splitter box. Recently I saw as temperature increases the electrical drive motor current increases. The system final output torque and speed is kept constant. The electrical motor is running at...
Hi, I am a looking for a supplier of motors in the 900 to 1100 V range, prefer 50 Hz but 60 would do also, 150 kW. The application is tunnel boring machines. I also need a soft start for the motor, and I need it fairly urgently.
Any ideas?
Any idea where I can download a compreshensive steel user guide. I am looking for information about which steel to typically use in what application.
At the moment I am specifically interested in wear resistant steels with high toughness.
I am looking for a large diameter floating mechanical seal eg the Duo Cone type from NAK. Size approx 965x1040x80 mm.
Looks like I may have to make my own. Any suggestions as to type of material to use for the interface surfaces?
Thanks, Bert
I need to establish the cooling rate of an aluminuim casting weighing say 20 kg starting at 450 deg C immersed into a water bath at 21 deg C. How long to cool down to 50 deg C ?
Maybe someone has experience enough to suggest a reasonable set of assumptions for calculation purposes ?
