    Wich would you prefer...HP Z600 Xenon E5540@ 2.53 Ghz vs HP Z210 Xeon E3-1240 @3,30 GHz

Hi guys, I would appreciatie some guidance for a good 2nd hand workstation purely for SW mondeling (modeling is single thread mostly, right?). After some research I would say the E3-1240 is the better choice, do you agree? Thanks and all the best [thumbsup2]

Non destructive testing (DC or AC)

Hi Guys, hope you're all well So, in ND testing of cracks in metallic materials most seems to be with (high freq.) AC current powered primary coils and eddy current induced secondary fields (which are probed one way or another). But why is this done with AC since DC is also suitable for...

    Cold work dislocation (interactions)

Hi guys, I know thtat cold working produces more dislocations that 'impede slip and thus increase strength' but i'm kind of puzzled to what exactly happens in the lattice. In this context I also read about 'forest dislocations' but I'm srugling to get a clear comprehension on this, hope some...

    plastic deformations / slip planes

Hi guys, hope you're all on your game [love] I was wondering why under tensile the shear plane is @45 degrees in regard to the applied load. (is it exactly @45 degrees btw?) Is this because: a)the shear is at max under this orientation or b)because the plane stacking is non-dense at this...

    Polymers vs elastomers?

Hi guys, hope you're all well. What is the difference between the term "ploymers" and "elastomers"? I'm somewhat confused? [love]

    Max service temp. (practical meaning)

Hi guys, hope all is dandy. What exactly does "max. service temp" mean for a material? It seems pretty straightforward but I'm not sure. [love]

Current and future trends for the butterfly industry

Hi guys, hope you're all doing well. I'm sheduled for a sales job in the butterfly sector. Although I do have some rudementary knowledge of butterfly valve's I would like to get a heads up for any new / emerging trends in the bussiness. Will the future be stable for the standard rubber lines...

Loft & path (exercise in patience)

Hi to you all, hope your're all doing well. What 'rules' are there to follow when making guide paths for lofts? Personally i'm having a hard time with these guide paths. Sometimes I get them to work as intendet, other times i simply cannot get them to 'connect' to the section sketches to have...

Partially interfering mesh with 'no penetration contact', what will happen?

On my part there are certain notches on it's circumference that have an initial interference. As such the mesh is also interfering at those locations. The contact condition is set as 'no penetration'. Now, will the solver even see this initial overlap? How is this handled if at all? Or can such...

    Unrealistic high stresses (linear FEA)

I'm doing a FEA on a clamped pipe assembly (bolted with some kind of straps) and i'm somewhat puzzled why the stresses on the pipe are literally of the scale (1000-2000 Mpa). The pipe would probably have some / minor plastic deformation due to the clamping but still... The constraints, loads...

Is alignment of seperate meshes necessary?

guys, I'm interested in the stress on a transition between two parts in an assembly(weld transition). But the stress transition is not smooth between the two parts. This seemed strange to me and i'm wondering why this is. The meshes don't seem to align nicely, but i'm not sure if this is...

Modelling a spring in Inventor (FEM)

Dudes and Dudettes, i'm currently modelling a suspension system in inventor but there does not seem to be a virtual spring option. What is the best way to still model a spring with a certain k-factor? [thumbsup2]

ISO / TS / APQP questions

I've welcomed myself in to the world of ISO/TS/APQP/PPAP/XYZ and now i'm wondering what exactly a control plan is and how - if at all - it relates to a process flow diagram. Also how does the APQP process relate to the TS standard. Which came first?? I would also be grateful if somebody could...

equivalent k value (spring and tyre stiffness)

Im trying to determine the correct equivalent k values for the spring rates for the sprung and unsprung mass. For instance, is kspring + ktyre correct for the unsprung part (when trying to calc. the critical damping for example)? Gracias [sunshine]

    Resonance frequency semi trailer

Im trying to calculate the resonance freq. for a semi trailer The different spring rates of the airspring itself and the tyre should be multiplied by the number on the trailer right? So, basically 8x spring rate tyre and 4X spring rate airspring? From my scriblings im somewhere around 1.2Hz...

    Damping rates for semi trailers

Hi guys, are there general guidelines for semi trailer damping rates in the US? Do you guys have the 'road friendly' requirement like in Autralia for instance, or an equivalent? Thanks a bunch [thumbsup]

    Sliders on truck semitrailers

Why and for what reason are these slider suspension used in the states? Are these common on trailers or only for special applications? Here in Europe they are quite rare. Thanks guys [thumbsup]

Exporting inventor solid/assembly to dwg without tangent lines

Is there a way to export a assembly or solid for that matter to DWG (for further autocad work) without all the tangent lines visible afterwards in the DWG? Now I have to manually remove all the tangent lines before making it into a block witch is a pain.. [thumbsup2]

    Truck trailer axle loads permitted

Hello Guys, Im studying max. axle load for trailers in the us compared to their european counterparts. As far as i can see the normal max axle load for a single is 20K and for tandem is 34K. Why then does for instance Hendrikson offer (single) axles >20K? Why would they offer these when...

Roll stiffness ballpark valvue's for a 3 axle trailer

I would like to get some ballpark values for roll stiffness for a 3 axle trailer. I'm not sure how to tackle this, hope some of you can pitch in [thumbsup] Do the airspring contribute to the roll stiffness? I guess there is quite a difference for roll stability in long 'static' turns vs. in a...
