Why is cast steel not used for cylinder heads prone to cracking with cast iron?Most 1950-60 MG' cyl.heads I see have cracked. Is it a price question or a material one?
I recently visited a restoration firm in Germany where I was shown a rea raxle with wormdrive where the bronze main gear was totally worn away.
The restorer told me that after changing to GL5 oil the axle started whining and desintegrated within one hour.

I reconditioned a friend's engine which broke later on during running in.The piston broke just on the pin line,conrod bolts snapped clean off, smashed the whole block.
My question is: is this always due to overreving or is there another possibility?

I always wondered why they did this(The Alfas have them as well)
Is there any advantage? Or is it an adaptation for quick setting the valve/seat combination?

I recently put a sandcast alu sump on my car; I was told not to sandblast it as debris could collect in the pores.
