Hi All
I have also posted this under the ANSI Eng Tips forum - but it is applicable to ANSI and ASME
I found this post: https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=181686... in my search to a problem I am currently looking at.
My question is was there an error in the 1973 ANSI B16.5 150#...
A vendor of ours is purpose designing some manway davit arms from SA106 Gr.B pipe.
I requested that the -12.5% undertolerance be applied to the pipe - unless of course they do thickness checks to confirm actual pipe thickness.
The davit is for a 24"NB-600# + 5mm Weld Overlay blind flange (circa...
Hi All
I am working on a gas plant upgrade project and there is a requirement to apply "air-gap insulation" to vertical and horizontal pressure vessels. The air gap insulation is basically a 50mm air gap on the outside of the vessel shell/ends and a stainless steel sheeting is then applied...
Anyone seen this before? Typically the radius is 0.8mm in acc with ASME B16.5
Requirement:
Ring type joint in high pressure and elevated temperature environments. The bottom groove radius shall be 3mm minimum
Reasoning:
Leakage from ring joint flanges in these services has occurred due to...
Hi
We have a brand new finished vessel which has incorrectly been designed by 1barg lower than it should have been due to a fundamental error in specifying pressures in bar absolute and bar gauge.
The vessel is actually designed to the UK code PD5500 and the nozzle failing it's reinforcement is...
ANCHOR BOLT SPACING
I have just picked up a new vertical skirt supported vessel design and the anchor bolt / hold-down bolt spacing is as shown in sketch A in the attached pdf.
Sketch B is what I am normally used to seeing (e.g. equally spaced, off centres).
Has anyone seen or made a design...
States:
"The lateral velocity in the header shall not exceed the velocity in the nozzle. Multiple nozzles or an increased header cross-sectional area may be required"
Can someone define what is meant by "lateral" in the above clause?
Thanks
Question:
Attached is a clip (apologies for the quality) from a PV Elite calculation for a vertical skirt supported vessel anchor bolt design which I have been checking. All units are in N (Newtons) and mm.
The formula for the anchor bolt load per bolt is: = (4*M/DC - W) / RN
Where:
M = moment...
In the MOSS book davit procedure for a manway davit design I believe that type 2 design should be used.
One supplier has used type 1 which doubles up the load and moments and the davit fails – even though his spreadsheet calc shows the davit as passing…!!
Out of interest in the Type 1 design why...
I have been given an air receiver vessel detail on a package which has been accepted by the project.
The vessel operates under cyclic conditions.
Code = ASME VIII Div 1
Design pressure 33barg @ 120°C.
Vessel = 800mm ID x 18mm wall thickness
The fabricator – for whatever reason, has applied 6mm...
Pressure Vessel 100mm thick + 3mm thick SS cladding.
For calculation of the soak time does the 3mm thickness need to be taken into account?
e.g. calculate soak time on 100nmm or on 103mm?
Is there an ASME or BS or EN code limit to the maximum thickness that a nozzle can be? (apart from the obvious reinforcement limits)
e.g. A 150mm thick fitted with a DN600 (24” NB) nozzle – what maximum thickness would be permitted for the self reinforced forging?
I tend to use a maximum of 2...
Is there a code requirement (ASME, BS, EN, AS) for the minimum length required for a dished end straight flange or can you in effect have no straight flange and weld the shell directly to the head tan line?
This would mean that you are applying weld in the overstressed knuckle area.
