Hello!
Please see image attached.
Whats you opinion on not conecting the RC stairs to the RC foundation slab?
Basicaly the stairs are siting on top of the RC foundation slab and ar not connected with and rebar.
The other end of the stairs is conected with the RC wall using U bars (tenssion lap)...
Hello!
Please see pictrue attached.
My code (EUROCODE) defines that for contoling deflecion of RC slab one must see that the deflections are under the value of L (shortest slab span) divided by 250.
Wich value for L would you take for this scenario?
The walls are made from confided masonry and...
Hi!
Please see attached image.
How to calculate the horizontal pressure that the backfilled material will have on the retaining wall?
The material will be deposited and will have this trinagular shape behined the wall.
Usualy we are presented with problem that say that the material is compacted...
Please see image attached.
Its an RC container.
No matter what the width of the water block inside the container is, as long as the height of the water bloack is the same in all of 3 containers, the pressure on the bottom of the wall on all of the 3 containers will be the same.
The walls will...
Hi folks!
Please see attached images.
The 1st floor slab is canterlivering from the groundfloor walls.
Would you say that the 1st floor RC confining element (marked with "?") is necesary, since there is another one at the end of the wall?
Thank...
Hi all!
Please see the sketch attached.
THis is aan canteliver retaining wall 10 foot high with an wall thats 8" thick.
It will be 30 feet long.
How much of the horizontal reinfrocement on the front face of the wall would you apply to control the vertical cracking due to restrain of the...
Hello.
We are in progress of designing 4 modern houses on a location that mainly rocky soil.
The client wants the hoses to be elevated for 3m above the egsisting level due to the sea view.
I have never designed anything on a fill that yet needs to be constructed.
Can you give me some gudiance on...
Has anyone used these?
Your opinion on this system compared to your traditional solution when using dowel bars.
Im a bit confused couse they are puting ribbed rebar inside of those holes?!
thread255-485674
Guys I know this is an old thread, but Im not clear with one thing that has been said.
"Surcharge above the heel loads the stem but helps resist overturning and sliding. Surcharge behind the heel loads the stem to a lesser degree and lowers sliding and overturning resistance"
I...
I dont agree with my code on how to place rebar in a flanged beams at intermediate supports.
The flange is in tension above the suport, so the story of effective width cannot apply....yet the code says that the top (tension) rebar can be spread across the effective width wich is the same width...
Hello!
Im interested if you agree with the following.
Increasing the thickness of the cantilever part of the slab "CASE B" (left side from the support), from 20cm to 25cm, will probably reduce the need for reinforcement on the right side.
But since this is an continous slab, the problem remains...
When dealing with additional horizontal pressures on a retaining wall, that are induced by a strip load, wich of the two cases is the right way to look at the situation, and can you please explain why?
Retaining wall position and geometry are sketched with an red...
Hello!
Ive installed Mathcad o my new laptop.
Anyway when I open my spreadsheets that Ive made, every textbox, list box, check box that were present in the sheet are gone!
When I click in the area where the box was I get an text saying "value cannot be null"...parametar name pUnK.
Mathcad...
Hello!
If you cast a new RC floor slab over the existing one....would you agree that putting an nylon foil on top of the old slab, before casting a new slab, would prevent two slabs from "sticking" to each other, and thus behaving as completely as two independent bodies?
Thank you
Hi folks!
When using standard formula for Kp (lateral passive earth pressure) in Terzaghi formula, I cannot get an correct value for N gamma.
Egsample for 30deg, N gamma should be 19,13.
Using equation attached I get an value of 0.866
Whats wrong?
Hello folks.
I need some advice / opinion
We are are going to be supervising an construction of medium size residential building.
Dsigner has defined and raft foundation 20cm thick with and edge beam thats 30cm in width and 50 cm in total height.
The raft slab is reinfroced in top and bottom...
HI!
Can anyone maybe explain a benefit of using stirrups on the left instead the ones on the right?
Same column with 8 bars, except the right one has identical stirups shape and the one the left has 2 stirrups...
Hi folks!
Does your CODE egsactly says, when, you have to design something for earthquake action?
Im eurocode based but I cant find any info when I should take earthquake actions into account.....
My code is EUROCODE 2 for RC structures.
It says that the maximum rinforcement ratio form beams should not exceed 0,04% of cross section area.
Does this mean 0,04% for tension reinforcement and 0,04% for compression compression if the section needs to be doubly reinforced?
Hello!
Can you please look at the picture attached.
I have and series of T beam over wich an RC slab will be poured.
When designing for an negative moment over the support, wich of the 3 geometry cases is valid for design:
1) TOP one, the whole structure is behaving as one body - T beam and...
