Hello,
I have a convergence problem with my contact model.
I have a Ubolt (Solid185) which is wrapped around a tube (Shell 181) (modeled such as the bottom inner node of the Ubolt has almost no penetration/gap with the bottom node on the tube).
No separation contact is used because the bolt...
Hi,
I ran a modal analysis of a hollow rectangular section cantilever beam with beam4, beam8 and beam188 elements. Beam4 and Beam44 produced the same frequencies for bending modes and match closely to hand calculations. But results with Beam188 differ by ~30%. Can anyone explain the reason for...

I have a spherical thin film supported by a ring at film's
circumference. When I cool the system to an uniform temperature, intuitively it seems to me that both the ring & film should shrink together if CTE of film is same as that of the ring. In other words, it would be a sphere of smaller...
We are building a rigid elliptical torus with helically wound pre-preg carbon fibers at -/+ 30 degrees. There are 15 windings each in the clockwise and counter clockwise direction.
Since its difficult to model the helical windings, I was wondering if there is a way to model it with shell...
Hi all,
I am trying to model a circular membrane (thin film) with a variable thickness coating in Algor (thickness increases from zero at the center to a finite height at the edge). The way I have been modeling the variable thickness distribution is by having many elements to approximate the...
Hi all,
I am looking at the eigen-value analysis of a ring compressed radially using nodal forces. The natural frequencies increased when I used load stiffening option in Algor when compared to a ring with no loads on it. The constraints were the same for both. Is this correct? I am not sure if...
Hello all,
Is it right to assume that buckling in thin hells/membranes occurs if the minimum principal stress is negative? If so, then, is the min. principal stress the intermediate principal stress or the through-the-thickness principal stress? Could anyone explain this to my confused mind...
I am relatively new to Algor. Can anyone give me tips on how to model a torus using membrane elements in Superdraw? Unfortunately, I do not have access to any other three dimensional drawing software.
Thanks

From what I know, membrane elements carry only inplane loads. And the stress in the out-of-plane direction is zero. Then, can we use these elements when we have gravity load normal to them? The thickness is very small compared to the lateral dimensions, hence, I am using membrane elements.
Thanks!
I am modeling a triangular membrane. Tensile loads are acting at the three vertices inorder to keep the membrane in tension always.
Now, How do I model constraints for this problem? Because if the loads are in XY plane, there should be a x and y constraint somewhere in the model.

Hi all,
I have a few spot welding cap electrodes of 6.4 mm dia. I need smaller electrodes which can produce nugget diameters of 2mm and 4mm. Does anyone know where I can find the regulations for machining the existing electrodes into smaller electrodes or where I can procure smaller ones.
Thanks.
Hi all,
I have a plate of 300*300 mm and a hole of 20 mm. I have applied a tensile pressure load of 200 MPa. I want to find the stress concentration factor. I have developed a quarter-symmetric model. I have used first-order plate elements. And this, is what I find when I do the convergence...
