    fatigue load cases

Hello, I'm working on a foundation which is subject to fatigue load spectrums. This means I have 25 max/min load cases. Is there any quick way of setting these up in Staad Pro (V8i). In each case I have a number of loads which do not change but I have to enter them each time anyway - can you...

    Modelling a wind turbine foundation

Hello, I'm trying to model a wind turbine foundation using Staad Pro V8i. In general I'm using a solid model and getting reasonable results. My question is how to model the anchor bolts and tower plate accurately. The bolts are modelled as beam members, but I need them to be debonded from...

Reduce Uplift / Flotation by ground drainage

Hello, I've designed a Water Tank which is mostly below ground. When considering uplift 3 options were developed: 1. Increased Tank weight with extra concrete. 2. Provide toe around the tank to mobilise weight of backfill. 3. Reduce uplift by providing ground drainage around the tank to a...

    Shaft sinking advice

Hello, I'm designing a large storm holiding tank. The volume is 6000m3 (1585000 gallons). Its all under ground. The ground conditions are: 0-9m (0-29.5') soft SILT 9-14m (29.5'-46') soft CLAY 14-16m (46'-52.5') GRAVEL on LIMESTONE BEDROCK The ground is saturated up to surface level The tank...

Preliminary design values for soil strength

Hello, Can anyone direct me to some 'standard' or preliminary values for characterstic soil strengths - e.g. undrained shear strength - for different soil classes - CLAY, SILT, SAND etc.

    Joints in water-retaining structures

Hello all, I've been designing water tanks of various shapes and sizes for a couple of years now. The design is to BS8007 with max crack width of 0.2mm. My question is to do with the provision of movement joints to control early thermal and shrinkage crackin, as I seem to get conflicting...

anchoring a RC tank base to rock

Hello, I'm wondering if there's an easy and cheap way to anchor a reinforced concrete base of a tank to underlying rock,to resist flotation. I'm designing a Washwater Recovery Tank. The Site Investigation shows a water table upto 1m below ground close to the site. Using this as my level for...

Wind uplift for a Polyethylene lagoon liner

I'm design concrete filled pipes as ballast for a sheet liner in a sludge lagoon. Can anyone offer adivce on a wind uplift calc? I think the fact that the liner will not act as a rigid panel helps, but I can't find any design guide on this.

Wind uplift for a Polyethylene Line Sludge Lagoon

I'm working on a sludge lagoon design for a Water Treatment Facility in Ireland. To counteract wind uplift of the liner sheet , the proposal is to use concrete/soil filled pipes as ballast. Can anyone advise on a standard detail for this - pipe sizes, lengths, centres. If anyone has used...

    Writing Civil/Structural Specifications

I'm trying to update some General Specifications which are used at my company and haven't been kept in order. It seems that some people at the company just put their own specs together over time, but I'd like to build a decent General Spec in a format that can be kept up to date. Does anyone...
