I didn't see a PDM sub-forum, so I'll ask here:
I am running the convert files task to convert our released drawings to PDF for the rest of the company/world to access when they hit that point in the workflow. I would like to have the PDF filename contain metadata from the source file, namely...
Is there a good tutorial available for doing thermoformed tray design in SW?
I'm playing around with using the indent and deform tools as well as some surfacing tricks. However, if someone has a methodology they'd like to share, I'm all ears. I tried searching this forum and Google and didn't...
I made a simple layout sketch and blocks to show the motion of a piston. In the layout sketch, all the members move as they should. The horizontal member remains fixed, the angled bar pivots, and the piston moves vertically.
I made parts from each block. At first, when I went to move the parts...
I can't figure out how to change the file name of an assembly that has virtual components in it without causing the references to become out-of-context. The virtual components are still looking for the original name of the assembly. Even save all as copy doesn't seem to work.
Anyone solve this...
I have a part (attached) that I am trying to bend. However, I am trying to bend it only where the through slot is, and nowhere else. I want the other faces to remain oriented as they are, and in the case of the partial slot, remain in their original position.
I feel like I'm close, but just...
We used to have a milling machine on the shop floor that could import DXF files. That machine was replaced by a more complicated machine (with a Fagor 8055 mill controller) that requires *.PIM files for importing.
Is it possible to get from a model or drawing in SW to this type of file? I'll...
I am working on some fixture design and thought it would be a good candidate for a top-down approach, as the fixture is dependent on several external constraints, some of which are not fully defined at the moment. I have read through the help on layout sketches, but am not entirely clear on...
I'm still in SW2007. I want to create a groove for an o-ring on a 3D contoured part. This groove will go around a hole for a vacuum. It's almost like I want to do a 3D revolve, which isn't possible as far as I can tell.
Any ideas for this one?

My company is using the multi-user environment as a stop-gap measure until we get a PDM system (being budgeted for, but not yet approved). I was using Windows to mark files as read only, but realized that SW has this feature built in.
However, I don't see a way to mark drawings as read only...
I'm not really clear on how to use the "next assy" and "used on" blocks on a drawing. The Y14.100 explanation of application data in section 4.6 confuses me.
So for the next assembly column, I should list, bottom up, all of the nested assemblies this part goes into? If that's the case, I have...
I've finally been forcing myself to fully detail my models so the drawing process goes a little faster. On revolved internal features, I want to show those dimensions in a cross section view on the drawing. However, I can't figure out how to apply an annotation view to a cross section. Is this...
I am making a fixture for a part that has a 3D chamfer around a curved surface edge. The chamfer is 3D because its Z changes as you go around the curve. I only have the parasolid to work with so I can't see how the original part was modeled.
In any case, I was able to convert the two edges of...
I have tubing that I have modeled as a long, straight tube. Is there a way to easily coil that for an assembly? Using a configuration comes to mind, but like sheet metal, I was wondering if there were an easy way to call something a "flexible tube" and wrap it around a hub of a known diameter...
I'm trying to use either and Excel or SW BOM in a drawing. All of my parts have named configurations and descriptions(ConfigurationManager > right click > properties). In my Bill of Materials Options, I have chosen to display the Configuration Name in a BOM. I also want to display the...
I know this was asked in thread559-131239 but that was in 2005. I am wondering if there is updated functionality to mirror a drawing in SW2007, without mirroring the part and creating a new drawing/redimensioning. This would save me about 3 hours this morning if anyone knows this. The help file...
For a part I'm working on, the size and shape of a compressed silicone disc is important. We have done these in a "guess and check" fashion in the past, but I want to understand the theory behind the deformation and use a model to help cut down our design iterations.
Has anyone seen a...
My company uses flags for all kinds of things in drawings and they are all numbered consecutively, though with different shapes depending on what they're being used for. However, if a feature has its flag removed, or if I want to add another one, I have to go edit each one to raise/lower its...
Is anyone using a Subversion repository to control their SW parts, assemblies, and drawings? I'm looking into this for my company and it seems to be pretty easy to use and set up. If you have direct experience, I'd be interested in hearing about your "best practice" recommendations or any...
I have a part that whose outside shape is two stacked cylinders of different diameters.

There is a bore in the larger cylinder. I want to control these three features so all are...
I haven't been a member here long, so please excuse the efflux of questions. I am trying to get my boss to send our team to a GD&T course, but that hasn't happened yet.
Anyway, I have a cylindrical disc that is mounting to the face of another part. Similarly, there are parts that will rest on...
