When watching NASCAR races on TV, they say that as the car burns off fuel it tightens up (understeer). This seems counterintuitive to me. I would think that you would see more oversteer as your rear end lightens up due to emptying the gas tank.
Could anyone explain this to me?
Hi Folks,
I'm running a contact analysis where I slide elasto plastic spheres across each other and have had pretty good results so far. I'm running a parametric study and changing the interference for each run. I'm on one of my last cases now and cannot get the darn thing to converge.
I'm...
Does anyone know how to sweep a mesh in ABAQUS?
Here's what I want to do, which I know you can do in ansys.
1. Create a quarter of a sphere. Done.
2. Divide this in half. Done
3. Partition one of the cut faces into smaller areas. Done.
4. Mesh the partitioned face areas.
5. Sweep...
I was at a superbowl party last night and discussed something interesting with a fellow ME. He and his wife have started a small business on the side selling grain over the internet. I don't know how much money they make or anything, but I was definitely intreagued.
I'd like to hear what...
I'm graduating w/ my master's in May in ME. I've been interviewing and currently have a offer in the midwest. I'm from the southeast and am in school down here. My offer is great money working for a big company. The job sounds fairly interesting, though similar day-in/day-out. Good lateral...
The octane thread got me thinking about pre-ignition vs. detonation. My truck, a 93 toyota with the 22-re engine with 192k miles on it, 'pings' under what I would consider a higher load condition (in 5th gear climbing grades while trying to accellerate under mid to full throttle situations). I...
Hey guys and gals,
I was just wondering if anyone has used ABAQUS for electromagnetic analysis. I have a sliding contact model that I will be applying a voltage across to determine stresses, strains, deformations, magnetic forces, temperature changes, etc.
I know ANSYS can handle...
I have two parts in sliding contact and would like to view the surface where the two parts are in contact for post processing. I have tried to define a cut plane, but there are portions of the part I would like to remove crossing the boundary obscuring my view as sliding progresses. Is there a...
Hello,
I'm running a contact analysis and came in this morning to this error:

Hello all,
I'm trying to extract the contact half-widths from a spherical sliding contact analysis. I say half-widths because the contact area will be eliptical. Anyway, what I'm envisioning is finding all the nodes w/ positive pressure (in contact), then finding their location and...
