    Double Wall Pipe- Pressure Vessel?

6" pipe, 2 feet long, built as a pyrolysis chamber for R&D, welded cooling jacket. Gas side: T~ 600 C, P = 10-15 inWg vacuum, Jacket: water, 40 psig, 20C in, 35 C out R&D is over, we ran the system for a year, pyrolyzing salts and collecting the powders, all worked good... time to build a demo...

    DLC chemical compatibility

Hi all, one of the potential pump vendors (gear pump) wants to coat pump gears with DLC coating. Liquid I want to pump may contain up to 40% of nitric acid. Is the coating compatible with this application? I heard a case of WC coating failing after 100 hrs in a gear pump pumping nitric acid...So...

    Using a title "Process Engineer"

I am kind of confused about this: My title in the company I work for is "Process Engineer" although the company nor the job description requires professional designation i.e. P. Eng (Canada, BC). Is it against the law if I use "Process Engineer" title on my business card? I don't have P. Eng...

    Agitator shaft/impeller coating

I have an agitator with 304 SS shaft/impeller. It is used to dissolve metal nitrate which becomes acidic as it dissolves so I have HNO3 generated in-situ. I noticed that the resulting solution, instead of being transparent, turns into darkish, although still transparent liquid. I am thinking...

    Fluid transport by pressurized gas

I saw somewhere interesting way of liquid pumping: instead of a pump, guy used simple pressurized vessel (gas from top) to push liquid through a pipe. Never thought about advantages of doing it that way. Although it was in a lab/pilot scale system. Any comments?

Single phase or 3-phase motor for blower

I am considering buying a small regenerative blower (1 HP) and default option is 1-phase motor. I want to control the speed using variable frequency controller. Is there any advantage of getting 3-phase motor here? Thanks, Nick

    Small capacity slurry metering pump

I am looking at delivering powder slurry (ceramic, quite abrasive) to an atomizer. Flow rate is about 0.5 lpm. Now, the question is what kind of pump is better: 1. Progresive cavity type or 2. Double-diaphragm Dilema: #1 provides non-pulsating flow, but I would have to go with bigger pump...

    Blower selection for vacuum

I would appreciate any input to this problem: 50 acfm of gas stream (containing solids, NOx and steam) is filtered in a baghouse with a fan downstream. Gas T is 280 C, water partial pressure is 0.3 and I am having problems with "cold spots" in the baghouse and condesate forming inside and in...

How to prevent solids build-up in a dryer?

Respected community members, I have one (only?) problem with my powder processing system and I hope someone will be willing to share his/her knowledge/experience. Here it is: Experimentsl reactor is 12" ID, 3 ft long (with a cone at the end) and filter/fan downstream. Powder is fed from the top...

Purging condensate in a vacuum line

If someone has experince with draining condensate from a vacuum line, I would appreciate any hint/help: Pilot-plant: I have a line under vacuum (2" Hg). Gas mixture (containig solid particles) contains water which condenses during the start-up (until the whole line gets hot). I was thinking...

    Fan and dumper

I have always worked with fans/cyclones in a way that I had to close dumper when starting a fan. Now I've got small fan with variable speed motor so I am thinking that this time I would just have to increase the speed slowly as pressure drop (this time I am using bag filters instead of cyclones)...

Best way to cool down hot gases with particles

I have hot gas stream (H20, N2) from reactor. T=~1000 C. It contains fine particles (product) that go to filter. I have to cool it down but avoid condensation. I am thinking about quenching with water and air but that will just add more water to the system. I need advice on which way to go: - I...

Recommendation for a small scale (pilot) NOx scrubber supplier

Hi, I would appreciate any info (based on experience) on a small scale scrubber supplier for NOx. I went through the ThomasNet and apparently, there are many scrubber vendors. I need to remove NOx from my pilot plant gas stream. Thanks, Nick
