Me and my colleague had an interesting conversation. We are designing the junction box highlighted in pink. All the way almost on the top of the photo is the FEMA 100 year flood elevation. My question is, how would you design the soil/water lateral force? How do you design the buoyancy...
Lets say you have an L shaped retaining wall that is buried around 3 ft and stick out of the ground about 10 ft. Can you count on the weight of the water above the heel to resist the load? I do not think I can, can't I? Worst case, water will fill up to the top of the wall.
If a project requires a toe wall at the end of culvert wingwall, do you think this wall needs to be connected to the slab? Do you think you can just install this toe wall (precast), backfill both sides of the wall, then install precast structure above it? The joint will be connected with ramnek...
So I am planning to put a custom made channel that will embed into the concrete (the sketch is plan view). There will be a steel structure that will slide thru this slot that will resist hydro-static pressure. How do I design this other than the bearing on the concrete face? Will the studs...
What is the most economical software you can buy that can do moment shear diagram for 1-4 spans? In my line of work, we wont use this software enough to justify paying for a software like Risa 2D/3D. Is there a software out there that has a low annual fee or one time fee?
So the capacity of these anchors in shear is quite high. If you get the appropriate lifting hooks for the weight, the hook actually cannot fit the pocket! Has anyone encountered this before? For example the 8CA18 from CONAC. According to this chart it can handle up to 20,000 in pure shear...
