Has anyone had EMC tests per 2004/108/EC performed by SGS-CSTC in Shanghi?
The tests are on low voltage DC motors and under the machinery directive they do not have to be tested by a notified body lab. This lab is not a notified body.
Any comments?
Can someone describe the E-Stop for a hydraulic circuit required by the EN standard. For operation, the equipment will have either a manual control valve or solenoid operated control valve.
I want to compare 24 volt DC motor brush noise between several motors in order to determine which brush material or capacitor addition gives the lowest EMC emissions?
What instrument could be used for this instead of having to send each motor to an EMC test lab? Once the motor with the lowest...
I am looking for a push-button operated emergency shutdown switch for use at up to 400 amps, 12V DC and up to 200 amps, 24V DC for winches per an EN standard. These are full-load amps for the winches. At stall torque the motor may draw 50% higher current which I assume should be the max. switch...
I need to know what sect. 4.4.2 says. The product of interest is winches. Could someone give me a brief description of what this section covers so I can decide if it is worth buying the entire standard. The standard costs almost $400.
Does anyone know if these stds specify the test points or duty cycle test? Have a product with both 12v and 24v DC motors and wondered if they need to be tested at maximum load rating, no load or some other load?
Also, any way to determine before test whether a 12v or 24v motor is worst case...
4140 as cast pin in sliding contact with 8620 flat surface experiencing considerable wear when flat surface is a little rough (150-250 microinch). Light load on pin, moly grease used between the two surfaces. Wear considerably less when 8620 is 60-100 microinch, but difficult to consistently...
Does anyone know which grease would be better for a sliding contact application? The softer steel is Rb 84-100, the harder steel is Rc 33-38.
Would one be better if the harder surface is rough?
Would like to know how other winch manufacturers are addressing this harmonized standard which is to take effect in Sept 2008 for winches sold in the EU.
What should the hardness be for 4140 investment cast steel? As cast, not heat treated.
One reference shows an Rb of 100. Checked some parts which show Rb 80-85 (converted from Rc scale). Having to check using Rc tester and getting Rc of 0 to 2. Looks like Rb 100 should convert to approx. Rc...
Dwg spec is 80-55-06. Received cert with castings as follows:
Tensile: 119,400 psi
Yield: 84,900 psi
Elongation: 6%
Chemicals: 3.63 C, 2.56 Si, .64 Mn, .01 P, .02 S, .02 Cr, .06 Ni, .11 Mo, .55 Cu, .04 Mg.
Hardness: 207 Brinell
Is it believable that tensile and yield are that high, and that...
Received certifications from a foreign ductile foundry with the following mechanical and chemical properties:

Has anyone had to deal with a new EN standard for their product where there are several new requirements that are unrealistic or impossible to attain?
I have been told the standard is ratified and there is no chance of changes prior to or 2 years after the effective date. It takes effect in 2...
Does anyone know the Powder Metal equivalent spec for this?
SAE 660 is used on an old bushing dwg that uses bar or tubing to machine the bushing. Am looking to tool the bushing to make from oil impreg. powder metal and hopefully save money. Cost of machined bushing has increased 76% this year...
I seem to recall a method that relies on probability or some percent likelihood of tolerancing parts rather that the worst case max and mins which will not occur.
Does anyone know what this is? Is there some published standard or paper?
Thanks,
To meet 98/37/EG, I have understood that one must meet a harmonized standard (if one exists) in order to declare conformity. However, in the New Approach website, there is a statement that "Compliance with harmonised standards remains voluntary".
If a company has been using self-declaration...
If a prEn draft standard has been approved and it is now in harmonization stage 6055, what does this mean?
Current status is shown as "Ratified" and it is listed as an EN standard in the CEN list of 'new approach' mandated standardization projects.
Does this mean it will be adopted as...
Now use a brake spring in a high friction, high heat application. Material is 1065-1075 spring steel, Rc 42-46. In some high usage applications, spring life is inadequate.
Asked spring supplier to quote making the spring of 15-5 CRES. They are having a problem sourcing the material which is a...
