Does anyone have experience trying to set up different reliability goals for different systems of an off-highway vehicle?
My boss was in the stone age with his design goal of XXX hrs/yr. I asked how many years? - he didn't know. I asked what percentile of customer, 80th? - he didn't know. :(...

I am trying to determine the inertial mass needed for a large bedplate to be built that may be used for off-road vehicle shaker tests. The test subjects weight 2-9t and the actual vibration spectrum is not known.

I would like to know why diesel injectors do not have large numbers of holes, 10 to 12, instead of only 2 to 8? (no limits due to emissions) My assumption is that if the fuel could be delivered faster, the pump timing could be retarded. This would create more power due to lower cylinder...
Can anybody help me predict the pressure drop/airflow through a perforated steel plate? My application is ~6000cfm with an opening of ~4000in2 with ~58% open area. I would like to calculate the effect of changing the % open area or opening size.
