Hello all...
x64 SW2009 SP4.1
I have an assembly that I am performing a Simulation study on. On one of the components I have created a sketched circle that I would like to apply a fixed constraint to. When I try to create the constraint in the Simulation menu using 'Fixtures/Loads/Fixtures'...
Hello - can comeone please refresh my memory...
If I have a closed volume formed by various surfaces that I have trimmed, sewing the surfaces together should create a solid, correct? There should be no further operations necessary, right?
I don't currently have access to a seat of NX to test...
Hi all:
I've got a generic sheet metal part with lots of variations that I have put into a design table. The base part is very simple - just a base flange with a jog in it.
I need to be able to vary the position, offset, angle and direction of the jog.
I can add the sketch dimension to where...
I'm running SW2009 SP3 on a Dell 690 with Win64 and 8 Gig of ram. I get crashes 3-4 times per day, and in each case I have to power down the box to get SW to open my assembly again. If I do not power down, SW will just hang there forever trying to reopen the assembly.
In one case, I lost a...
Hi again...
OK, so I've been using SW for an entire week now (not really true, I did go thru all the tutorials a while back).
Wonderful tool, but a quite a bit different in one aspect from my old Pro/E in regards to how assembly constraints are created.
In Pro/E the way you examine how a part...
Hello all...
I just started a new job last week using SolidWorks 2009.
I've come up to speed pretty quickly after using Pro for 14 years and then NX for the last three years. However, I am stumped on how to place temporary reference dims on an assembly.
In Pro, you could annotate a part or...
Hello -
Is there a way to globally set the size that model dimensions are rendered at? I don't like the large font used in sketches and when I select a feature to edit. On a busy sketch the dimensions all run into each other.
Thanks in advance...
Ed
With apologies to Jerry Seinfeld... I've been playng around with ST in NX6 and find it quite intriguing. I haven't had any training yet, so I'm not nearly up to speed on all it can do, but I will say that Siemens has done some very amazing things.
I guess I'm wondering if this is intended to...
Hello all...
We've been modeling in English units and have now been asked to start using metric in mid-stream. We have a few parts that have hundreds of hours into them, including detailed drawings.
Is there any way to convert them? All the parts are in TcEng, but I would be willing to take...
Hello all:
I'm using NX 5.0.4.1, but I've noticed this behavior for quite a while.
While in sketcher, I often select the 'project' icon to pick existing geometry to use in the sketch.
Sometimes it is desired to make this geometry associative, but the 'associativity' checkbox is ghosted...
Is there a definition or white paper that describes in detail what the various load options do?
Our site is configured to show the following load options:

Hello all...
My company is migrating to NX5/Teamcenter. One of the more perplexing features of NX/TCe is the lack of a local workspace to 'check out' data into. You are always working with 'live' data in the vault.
I-Deas/TDM and ProE/Intralink both use the concept of a local workspace into...
Hello all:
Using NX4/TCe, we have our assemblies configured to 'precise' by default. When I retrieve an assembly, I would like to be able to check which components have a later version in TCe.
I know that I can retrieve the assembly using 'latest by creation date', but I only want to see...
Hello -
I have been test driving NX5 a bit and I was disappointed to see that using 'Project Curves' from within the Sketcher environment still will not let me select the edges or silhouettes of a cylinder or any curved surface (from existing geometry) to project onto the sketch plane.
I was...
Hello all -
My design team has been on NX4/TCe for about a year now and one of the things we pine for the most is a local "workspace" into which you can check out parts.
I-Deas/TCe still supports this metaphor, and I was wondering if TCe can be configured to let NX users do the same.
The...
This is a new one for me...
I retrieve a master model drawing, then open the part and edit the first sketch to move an edge a small amount. The model regens fine with no errors.
I then switch to the drawing, and the drawing tree shows that the drawing is out of date. Fine, I right click on...
Hello all...
I performed a clone operation today on a cast/machined model and I'm confused by what happened.
The original cast/machined relationship was created by building an empty assembly, then adding the casting model, then wave linking the casting model into a new part using the wave...
I've noticed that replacing a reference (ie datum plane or axis) and replacing it with another causes all the features that are dimensioned to that reference to lose all their dimensional contraints.
Example: I have a casting with 200+ features, built on default datum planes A B and C. Due to...
Hello folks -
I was wondering if there is a simple/realistic/reliable way to access my NX4 data residing in TCe from home.
First a little background...
I have a very reliable 3 Mb DSL connection, and can connect to the company network via an SSL socket.
We have just deployed TCe 9.something...
