All:
As a manufacturer, we currently use Nitrile as a gasket material for a submersible piece of equipment. One of the pieces of gear shows some cracking (<2 years in service), however, still holds the seal.
A couple of questions:
1). Is Nitrile a good choice....the equipment is not...
Can I use Isopropyl alcohol to clean particle contaminants to prevent tracking? it is 15kV gear. Does anyone have better suggestions? seems like I cannot use denatured alcohol due to toxic safety.
Guys,
We make a SST part by welding a SST tube to a pad, we continous weld the tube on both sides. The volume is not high enough to justify a cast tool at this point. The customer requests a one piece construction , I would like to know if the welded is just a strong as the cast? and any data...
Could someone help me with a circuit to duplicate 3 phase from 120VAC single phase. It does not have to be accurate but I would like to show some real "dummy" values for voltage and current. Can this be done. I have a small transformer that I dupe 2 voltages but being a mech . engineer not...
General Question from a mechanical engineer:
I have a motor that I have been using for many years and now is being discontined. I have a source in China that I sent the motor too to duplicate. Recieved the new one but it does not electrically function the same. One of the technicians sent...
Our customer wants a magnetic field around some bus bars for testing. Could anyone help me with advice on how to do this. I have some 10,000:5 C.T.s....could I push 5 amps into them and if so, at what voltage...could I use a variac to adjust the field level?
thanks
Does anyone know how I can use a digital timer to stop when a battery source is depleted in a simple electrical circuit. I would like to add a certain load and use a timer to determine when the battery dies. Being a mech. engineer, I would greatly appreciate any help and recommendation on a timer.
Any ideas on a design for a AC trip coil that has to release
a 2 lb. load.
Asa the spec calls out , they want an AC shunt trip to work down to 13VAC on 125V P.U. basis, which can also reach 190VAC L-G.
the latch load is around 2 lbs. Therefore, any trip device must develop in excess of 2 lbs...
I have a submersible enclosure approx. 60 cubic feet in volume, with some mass inside to take up maybe 1/4 of the volume. Anyway, I had a Nitrogen tank with a regular set at 3.5-4.0 psi max, the tank was 90 cubic feet at 2200 psi. I was trying to fill the enclosure with around 4 psi, but when...
I have a relay with an RS-232 port that I need to connect to but there is not much room in front of the relay. Does anyone know of flat connector pigtail that I can attach and run to another PCB.
thanks,
Mark
Hello,
I'm trying to understand communications in the utility field. The protocols available, transport method, physical media. I'm not sure if I exactly understand the above, But I believe the transport method is either RS 485 or RS 232, the media is air, fiber, bus (PLC) and the protocol is...
Can anyone lists the advantages/disadvantages between a cam the has laminated heat treated steel pieces riveted together versus a solid replacement EDM cut or formed from powdered metal?
thanks
I have a unit that monitors 3 phase voltages, currents, etc. Is there a off the shelf device that will take single phase 120VAC and convert/dummy 3 phase? I would like to make a test box that will produce 3 phase from single phase, this way I can demo the monitoring device to show the values...
Since I am a Mechanical engineer, I need some help if possible. I have installed a tankless hot water heater that draws about 54 Amps @ 240V when in operation. It only works when the hot water is turned on, this on demand thing is supposed to save alot of money, anyway, this device is mounted...
Does anyone know what percentage of copper denotes a "Copper Bearing Steel". Is there a standard? what effect does the copper have on corrosion properties or strength?
thanks
We have a 316 SST plate and weld 2 SST studs on it, is it possible for this to become magnetic? Our customers concern is corrosion and he is alarmed that this is magnetic. I'm not sure what kind of weld filler was used, I was told that First of all, the studs were rusting and they told me that...
I have a submersible tank that our customers fill with 2-3 psi of Nitrogen. One engineer told me that this could be detrimental to the product causing rust and corrosion by forcing nitrogen into a tank that already contains some oxygen. I'm not very good at this..but is this bogus? I know...
I have a copper conductor through a Cycloalophatic resin that I want to run a thermal cycle on for expansion and contraction of both materials to see if they fail. Does anyone know a standard test procedure as far as number of cycles and time duration. I have a min and max cycle temp.
thanks...
