    automatic material removal in assembly

I would like to be able to assemble hardware parts (hinges, screws, etc) to wood components and remove material on the part where they were installed. The hardware would be the smart part driving the material removal in the mating part. Is this possible?

Is it better to have an in-house detailer? I'm involved primarily in miscalleneous fabricated metal work (stairs, railings, platforms, etc.).
