I am an artist wishing to improve the weatherproof rotary shaft seals on outdoor kinetic scuplture.
I need to seal 3/8" and 1/2" stainless steel precision ground shaft exposed to the elements in any climate and at any angle. e.g. -40F to 140F, 0 psi, rainproof.
The lip seals I have...
I'm looking for design tips or resources on designing a weatherproof bearing and housing assembly with VERY low starting torque, e.g. wind driven. Something like an anemometer would need.
Very low rpm, and load involved, all outdoor environments, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...
My requirement is for a bearing housing that is reasonably weatherproof (i.e. OK for outdoor use), and maintains very low starting torque (e.g. a non-contact labyrinth shield of some sort).
Currently my housings are bored out of Al round .75" to 1.375" d., use R4, R6, or R8 ss...
I am prototyping and need to drill? 3/16" and 5/16" holes at 30 to 40 degrees through thin walled aluminum and steel tubing .50 to 2.0" d.
I have the fixtures to clamp the tube in place - the problem is the deflection of the hole, particularly on the bottom of the tube as the...
