    oven surface temperature

My heat transfer is rusty at best. We are designing an oven that has 600 F internal cavity temperature. The oven door is constructed of stainless steel with 2 glass panes. The glass panes are seperated apart by 1/2" air gap. We want to solve for the surface temperature of the outer glass...

    Designing six-bar linkages

There are all kinds of graphical methods to construct 4 bar linkages. Is there a graphical means to construct a 6 bar linkage? Is it more or less trial and error / experience? How do you know where to place the joints to achieve the movement desired?

    thru curve mesh help

I am having trouble making a domed surface. The surface is supposed to look like an egg split in half lengthwise. I have curves defining the outside oval shape and curves defining the front and side profiles. What command do I use? In NX2, I would use 'thru curve mesh' to pick the outside...

    converting units

Need help with converting units from metric to inches. I tried using the 'ug_convert_part' program from http://www.vickers.de/ugconv.htm. This works fine, but my sketch dimensions and other values stay in metric. I'd like all the values to be changed to inches. Is there another way to...

    assembly help

When I add an existing part to an assembly, all my layers and blanked objects show up. But when I display the part, only the solid geometry is visible. What am I doing wrong? Also, how do I change the units in the part, I need to convert the part from mm to inches.

    Pattern instance along complex curve

Here's another challange for the UG experts. I have an s-curve projected onto a compound surface. I'm trying to create a feature pattern (in this case, 5 dimpled cuts) that follow the s-curve. The instance command does not allow for such a function, does it? Or do I have to make them all...

    how to create tangent curve

Here's another UG gripe. I need to create several curves that are thru 2 points, but the endpoints have to be tangent to their adjacent surfaces. I'm looking for a command that is similar to "bridge curve", but specifying surfaces rather than curves to be tangent to.

    how to create conic radius?

How do I create a conic feature in sketcher? I need to make a radius'd corner using a conic instead of a round blend. The shape is basically a tall rectangle, with one side having a slight arc. When I try to constrain the conic in the sketch (tangent to the arc and line and coincident to the...

How to retain points on curves during modifications?

Here's one of my biggest beef about UG since I've been using it. When I place a point on a curve - whether it's at the end points, intersecting another entity, or at some ratio - the points do not stay with the curve when the curve is modified. The point just stays at its original spot. This...

How to replace surface with another surface?

I have a sliver of surface that I want to match with an adjacent surface. For example, if I have a wavy surface with a cylindrical boss sticking thru it, can I convert the boss's flat surface so it becomes part of the wavy surface? I tried the trim body command, but it is leaving circular...

Shading both side of a surface

Is it my graphics card or just some setting that I'm missing? When I create a surface, only one side is shaded. When I rotate to see the other side, it is transparent. Using NVIDIA Quadro4 900XGL graphics card if that helps any.

How to trim/extend projected curves in sketcher?

I am creating a part which needs to reference off of imported data in order to match existing surfaces. When I go into sketch mode, I use the project button to "copy" the edges from the imported surface. The section is basically a "U" shape - 2 vertical lines, a horizontal arc, and corner...
