Flat disk with pressure. Results are too low.

I have a diaphragm disk, .0625" thick, 4.944" diameter, 17-4 PH H-900. I fixed the very edge around the diameter, the .0625" thick OD edge, and put 50 psi on one face. I end up with .004" max deflection in the very center. That seemed low so I had a friend run the same test on Pro-E and he...

Water tightness errors really bug me. Any easy way to solve these?

I have a tubular frame and half the time I get water tightness errors. What gives and is there any way to find and fix these in the Model? I am using Alibre and Algor Design Check.

ANSYS ED suitability for a Truss Project

I have a welded steel tube truss structure that I would like to analyze. It is similar to a bicycle with some slightly curved parts and four sided bays. I have looked at several packages available in the under $500.00 range and ANSYS looks the best. Is the ED version suitable for a project...

Why Crawlspaces instead of Slab on grade?

I have designed a house using my mechanical engineering knowledge and lots of research. The house will be built in the Pacific Northwest on the Olympic Peninsula. When discussing my design with contractors in that area, I was constantly questioned about building on a slab. They kept insisting...

    Drag Racing Tires

Top Fuel drag race cars currently accelerate at over 5 g's in the first hundred feet or so. The cars weight about 2175 at the start of the 1320' run, typically 4.5 to 4.7 seconds. This is about 12,000 pounds of force pushing the car, only by the tires. There is a force procuced by the exhaust...

High Lift non flapped airfoil wanted

I have an application for a high lift airfoil without a flap. Stall issues not important. Thick is good, highly cambered OK. This airfoil will operate at high C/L only and will be used to generate downforce on a race car. What kind of max C/L can be reached without a flap on a highly...
