    Concrete slab craking

I read a lot of post discussing cracking in floors during the curing period. Anyone have a short list of items/procedures which should be followed as the floors are poured, finished, joints installed, cured to prevent cracking. An Inspectors Checklist.

    Control joints

I have seen 2 ways of installing control joints in a slab 1) pour, finish, let setup and cut the joints with a saw 2) pour, and as they are finishing the surface they cut in a grove with a trowel Does it make any difference

    Telltale in Pile load test

Just wondering what peoples thoughts were on including telltales in a pile load test. I am planning to test 12 inch dia 60' deep auger cast piles to failure (ultimate design 160 kips). I was planning to in stall 2 telltales on mid depth and the other 3 feet from the bottom. Any lesson learned...

    rock excavation

Does anyone have any expirience using one of these expanding liquid mixtures such as The Cracker from u.S. Anchor Corp. or Bristar from Demolition Technologies Inc. I have a pipeline project were we have encountered hard rock, but blasting is not allowed due do some old pipe adjacent to the...

    slope analysis methods

I have been using PCSTABLE6 to determine the stability of a clay slope. The slope is totally submerged under 45 feet of water. I would like to understand in more depth how the program is determining the stability to make sure I am analyzing the stability in the best manner. I was using the...

    infinite slope analysis

what is the rule of thumb in selecting the depth at wich a slide will occur (z) for an infinite slope analysis using FS = C/(unit weight * z *(1/2 sin 2*slope angle) is it a function of slope angle or material property or jsut an estimate.

    Under water dredged slope

I am trying to determine the steepest slope I can cut into the river bottom of the Thames River in CT, USA still waiting on lab tests but the sediments are a MH with shear strengths between 150 psf and 500psf. the water depth is about 50ft Are there any special techniques used for under water...

    Soil Nail Wall Expansion Joints

Does anyone have any input on what the spacing should be on expansion joints for a soil nail wall with a cast in place face? I had a comment from a reviewer suggesting putting a joint at every row of nails, but I thought that was exessive and could actualy reduce the effetiveness of the face.

    PDA testing

has anyone had expierience using a PDA to measure pile capacity, but not be able to generate enough energy to measure the piles full capacity. We had to get GRL's 20 ton ram in order to input enough energy to measure 1000kips of capacity. I am looking for some guidlines on how large a hammer...

    In place CBR

Has anyone hear of an in place CBR test I am trying to get a desing value to used, but the material is a decomposed rock. the bag sample run in the lab destroy the natural structure of the soil bringing the CBR value down to 2. I know the material is much stronger in the field. any suggestions

    long term strength in clay

I have heard a lot of opinions on the residual strenght of clay in slope stability problems. Some say only to used the friction angle of the clay for over the long tern because the cohesion element becomes 0 I have tri axial CU tests showing 10 deg friction and 1000 psf cohesion. I wanted some...

    Driven Piles on Sloping Rock

I am looking for some information of using drivne piles on sloping rock. I have spoke to a few manufactures of Rock tips which claim the point penitrate into sloping rock, but they cant give me any design limitations. How steep an angle can the tips cut into, does the top of rock have to be...
