If a disc with a large inertia is being driven at a constant speed via a flexible shaft, and a brake torque is applied to the end of the shaft (away from the disc), will the disc deceleration still be equal to torque/inertia or is it more complicated? (ignoring other effects such as bearing...
We use ge_font5 and it has width options of thin, normal and thick that are set to 0.13, 0.18 and 0.25mm.
Is it possible to change these defaults somewhere as I'd like to increase them.
Is there anyway to remove the title in the draughting window - it looks something like the following and resides in the bottom left corner: Sheet "Sheet 1" Work
It gets in the way when I export a PNG.
I believe this is old enough to be copyright free - if somebody has a copy, please can they post it on flikr or similar.
Forum member gearcutter posted it previously but the link no longer works:

In Preferences > Measurement, does anybody know what the tolerance value applies to.
For example, if I select g.mm on Menu > Analysis > Units and the tolerance is set to 1, will the result be within 1g? Or is it the result independent of the units setting and based on some underlying model...
Is there a way to create the type of blend shown in the picture below without adding a small blend to the vertical edge?

Q1) After preselecting geometry for constraining, is there anyway to get the floating constraint toolbar back if it disappears?
Q2) For equal radius and concentric constraints, I have to deselect the Arc Centre snap pretty much everytime - is there a way to turn the snap off permanently?
Hi, does anyone know where I can find a list of the abbreviations used e.g:
Rm = ultimate tensile strength
Rp0,2 = 0.2% proof strength
A = percentage elongation
etc..
In particular I'm after one for shear strength.

Is it possible to create an associative tangency between the end point of a spline and a line?
I've tried these methods (working with two lines angled two each other, one of which is fully fixed and the other has a fix at the spline connection end and an angle dimension to the...
According to PD5500, the min cylinder thickness, e = p x Di / (2 x f - p)
where p is pressure, Di is inner diameter and f is design strength
Re-arranged to give stress:
f = p x Di / (2 x e) + p / 2
However, according to standard thin cylinder theory, the stress is:
f = p x Di / (2 x e)
Anyone...

I have an assembly of a DRIVER model with sketches and models for each of the 3D components that are driven from the DRIVER via WAVE.
When I make the DRIVER the displayed part and work in a sketch it automatically updates the models in the background. Is there a way to turn...
Does anybody know if the following is possible within ansys (v12.1, classic GUI).
I have a 3D shell mesh that is axisymmetric and the 2D profile of the revolute is a complex curved.
The stress varies circumferentially and axially and I'd like to obtain a plot or list of peak circumferential...
MMPDS contains charts showing the percentage reduction of properties at elevated temperatures.
Do the reduced property values derived from these charts apply to room temperature dimensions or the dimensions at temperature?
We're using AN/AS123601 Inco 600 solid rivets for a high temperature application.
As far as I can tell, they are supplied in the annealed condition for which Fty is very low.
Is it safe to use cold worked properties after forming?
Does the manufactured head and shank become cold worked during...
I have a conical feature that I wish to dimension using a gauge plane position and diameter.
The plane can be created using Constructed Geometry at a certain diameter allowing the position to be dimensioned.
How do I dimension the gauge diameter?
Does anyone know if a spec. exists?
I know about AN123160-AN123750 but I'm after a low head rivet in the style of NAS1097/NAS1200 for high temp. use above 1200F.
Does anyone have access to the Boeing BACR15 standard or know where I might find it on the web?
We run NX2 on PCs without Teamcentre.
I have had a few crashes lately and am fed up with losing my work. UG appears to save files named xxxx.rol.bin in my Temp directory - is there a way to restore the model from these files?
I have ran both a Modal and Spectrum analysis on a Mechanical System.
The Spectrum results shows high stresses in a mode that is slightly above the excitation frequency range.
Question: Is it possible to find the stresses at another frequency other than the modal frequency to determine how...
Does anyone know what the standard value is for the tip radius on the basic rack for hobbing gears?
The gear that I'm working on is metric (European), has a module of 3 and a pressure angle of 25degrees.
I'm hoping to construct it using kinematics in CAD.
Is the radius size related to the...
