Exporting a 3D file from solidworks to Microstation .dgn.

Customer wants us to import our 3D model into a .dgn file for them to put into their layout. Is this possible without purchasing any expensive software? I've Googled myself dizzy and can't find a definitive answer. David Connect with me on LinkedIn. http://lnkd.in/fY7-QK Quote: "If it ain't...

Saving a Solidworks file into a .DGN file without any Bently / Microstation software?

    Pneumatic safety bumper

We have fully pneumatically powered turntables that have safety flaps than stop motion if they contact a person or item. Right now, they are a hinged steel flap, that is spring-loaded, and when compressed, it closes a pneumatic valve, which in turn shuts off the pneumatic motors. Admittedly...

    Tesla Cybertruck.... engineeers opinions?

I'm not an automotive engineer, but am a car guy... I think it's hideous, and impractical. Those flat panels won't resist dents and dings at all. May also cause reflective glare to other vehicles. Is there and type of crumple zones? Front headroom is probably good. What about rear? Range is one...

Anybody know a manufacturer of 3-1/2" 24V powered rollers?

Our normal suppliers don't sell them, and I've Googled myself to death with no success. I have a roller conveyor cart that is fork truck loaded, and pushed off onto a conveyor by hand. We normally would use 3-1/2" .300 wall rollers for this applications, but they aren't meeting ergo...

Helpfull tip for anyone having trouble renaming files / folders in Windows Explorer

Do it in Solidworks Explorer. Spent way too much time fighting the "folder can not be renamed because it is in use..." message, before thinking to try to do it this way. Seems to be a common problem in Windows 7 and 8, and Microsoft is showing no interest in fixing it. Now I've renamed a dozen...

    crash when trying to print?

I found an old thread for this, but was wondering if anyone has had this problem more recently. I've uninstalled and re-installed Draftsight to no avail. I don't seem to be getting any response from Dassault Systems either. Anyone else have this problem, and even better, has anyone found a...

Need to show axis on hex-shaped holes, and slots

In Pro-E, I made a bunch of UDFs (user-defined features) of shapes that contained axis, for dimensioning purposes. I have not found a way in Solidworks to do this. Basically, I want to automatically have an axis at the center of the hex shaped hole, or the oblong slot. Any tricks to this? David...

Copying multiple items from one assembly to another?

Is it possible? In Pro-E, I just used shift or control, and highlight the ones I want, control-C and switch to my other assembly, control-V, then add my constraints. I can't do more than one item this way in Solidworks. David

Getting the design to purchasing / production

So, Everywhere I've worked, there has been a lot of effort in getting the design to purchasing/manufacturing. One place, we hand a guy a stack of drawings, and he figures out which parts are made, and which are purchased. (distinguished by the first two digits of the part number) Here, we...

    Better mouse for Pro-E?

Recently, I've been going thru mice. Mostly logitech, but have also gone thru a Microsoft. The middle mouse button has pretty much quit working on each of them. Are there any more robust, durable mice out there? Seems they just don't make them like they used to. I use the typical 3 buttons...

    Working for a contract service

A contract engineering company has a position I'm interested in. I've interviewed with the placement service, and am interviewing with the actual company next week. They provide vacation based on hours worked, and paid holidays, but insurance is optional, and the employee pays all of it...

    "Short stints" at numerous companies

I'm wondering if my resume is getting round filed due to some shorter employment periods. I worked from 1993 to 2003 at one company. It was in the plastics industry, and when it closed, I couldn't find much else in that field. After 6 months of odd jobs, (landscaping, handyman work, etc.which I...

    Online portfolios / resumes?

I've seen in the past where people had basically posted their resume, and portfolios on the internet. I searched some, but wondered if you have yours posted up, and if you wanted to post a link to it. I'm looking for something relatively inexpensive, and easy to use. I'm not a web designer. I...

    Back to the viewer topic.

This has been beat to death, and I searched yet again without success. Right now, we have an extra seat of Pro-E for purchasing. All they do is open drawings and hit print, or export a pdf or dwg file to send to our machine shop or a supplier. Our engineering manager is wanting to do away with...

    Body control module?

We've got a 2003 Dodge Durango, and a lot of systems stopped working all at once. Power locks, headlights, interior lights, wipers, etc... After talking to the dealer, and doing some Googling, it turns out to be a BCM... or body control module. The vehicle has less than 50,000 miles on it, and...

    "Reviving" NiCad batteries

I've got 2 cordless drills. They both have NiCad batteries that either won't take, or won't hold a charge. One is a 9.6V that is about 6-7 years old. The other is a 12V that is only 2-3 years old. I've read a few "tricks" to reviving them, but haven't tried any yet. One involves discharging them...

Has the search function stopped working? I've searched some pretty simple terms, and it always says "not found". David

    BOM balloons

I've got a top level assembly, which contains about 12 subassemblies. Each subassembly represents an assembly station, and contains the parts and subassemblies that get assembled at that station. (This may not be the best way of doing this, but the model was created this way long ago, and I've...

    Moving multiple components between subassemblies

I need to restructure and assembly to reflect the way our units are being built. I've used the restructure command to move single components many times. However, I now have a bunch of fasteners that need to move along with the components. It's going to be very tedious moving them one at a time...
