compensating for increased CO2 - methods?

How much solar input would have to be intercepted or re-radiated to compensate for increased greenhouse gases? For example? what happens if we put some huge reflective panels in L2? (thinking aluminized mylar or equivalent) Earth's projected area is about 11.9 million square miles. What percent...

Sources of manuals and manufacturer contacts

From time to time we see requests for manuals - If you find a good source of manuals, either new or used, please post? Fanuc used to be decent about having manuals for their controls - don't know how far they go back. I'm going to call Amada, will post back on what they are willing to offer. I...

Application support - both machine and software

Thread starter - I am in the US, and worked for Amada years ago. At that time, we provided application support for customers. If someone had trouble cutting, or had a new material, we would work with them or run tests in the showroom to figure it out. AFIK, we even had a software support group...

    surface finish on bearing inserts

On another forum, an interesting photo is posted of a bearing insert. A modern vehicle with lots of miles, and the insert does not appear to ever have touched the journal. But, what's interesting is the surface finish of the insert - comments? http://corvaircenter.com/phorum/read.php?1,809154...

Gas pressure effect on lens to affect focus

Just food for thought - Has anyone tested or run the numbers to see how far a lens might deflect under high gas pressure? And, how far would that deflection move the focus point? I wonder if that would help explain some of the rules of thumb regarding focus height when cutting various...

    fun with computerized vehicles

More tales from my Sister the truck driver. Not just a driver, she and her hubby are owner-operators. That is, they each have a late model Freightliner and put some serious miles on them. The unit in question is still under warranty, with only 2-3 hundred thousand miles on it. It seems that...

    Brake pad materials - ratings/selection

Sorry, my Google-fu is filing me today. I thought there were some ratings for brake pads, in terms of temperature resistance/behavior, effectiveness /grip hot versus cold. Most of the "info" I can find is subjective and/or inconsistent. help? Jay Maechtlen http://www.laserpubs.com/techcomm

load specs for OEM-type ball joints

I'd like to find load ratings and specs for various ball joints- I'm reworking a suspension and would like the spring loading on the lower arm instead of strut/upper arm. I'm sure the original lower ball joint isn't rated to carry spring forces, so maybe I can find a standard /similar unit...

US truck fuel economy and Obama's new rules

In thread71-223596 it seems that fuel economy has taken a real hit in the last few years due to emissions requirements. block processing time

just for fun- some time back, I ran a test on a Fanuc 16-based laser system. I created a simple program with x,y coordinates about .002 inch apart. (actually a 2" circle). I recall it would only go about 5~6 inches/min because the controller wouldn't process the instruction blocks any faster...
