We have incorrectly ordered 350W which has failed a charpy test to match 350WT. The order consist of a small quantity of C Channel and plate what can I source today as an equal or better the 350WT.
We are currently working with an owner who has now stated that they are not comfortable with the use of the DMT instead of the provided data using the SPT. We went ahead with our own DMT testing to provide better data in designing for a temorary works required to construct the project.
We completed the coating of a weathered steel bridge using conventional blasting of the steel and meeting the proper profiles to paint a 3 coat epoxy zinc coating. The paint is now starting to fail.Is weathering steel meant to be painted. Any advice would be helpful.
We have hired a subcontractor to paint weathered steel girders, the spec calls for a waterblast surface preparation with very little flash rust. Our sub is finding this method impractical and has requested to use abrasive blasting.Which is better.
How do I calculate the vertical lift capacity of a 1-inch dia. 304 S.Stl. UNC bolt?
The nut & bolt act as a lifting device and will be torqued by hand. The action of the pitch will raise the load. At what point should we worry about load binding?
From the mechanical forum, I have learned that...

Roadway embankment widening/grade raise. Sideslope is 45-degrees. Engineer requires clay fill using geogrid reinforcement. Normally this is done with cohesionless material.
Does anyone have any experience or comments regarding the use of clay in such an application? What about concerns...
We are working on a bridge rehab which consists of removing a overhang, abutment & pier joints and replacing with new overhang and making the bridge semi-integral and tied at the pier. The bridge is a steel bathtub girder structure. We placed 40mpa mildly retarded concrete on the...
We are producing pre-cast elements and stripping after 5 hours in a shop with a temp of 60 degrees.Mix consists of 415kg of cement with the addition of a 2% of a non cloride additive. We are experiercing a softness and briddle nature of the hardened concrete even after a number of days in the field.
We are seeing a number of bridge projects eliminating expansion joints by installing link plates at the piers and then incasing the joint with heavily reinforced concrete.
My question is why do some designs encase the joints with a concrete diaghram and others with a thin section of concrete...
We are a contractor on a small bridge project which requires a 7" bridge deck slab to be removed & replaced between the existing cast-in-place girders. The bid design shows a temporary support structure at mid span of these existing girders with no stated bearing requirement. My falsework engineer...
I am on project that requires a salt scaling test if the rock we are using more than 80% silious content.I carried out a whole rock chemical analysis which found that the rock had 65%SiO.Was I wrong in using this test.
I have long held the position that the reliability of the salt scaling freeze test is suspect. This has been confirmed on a recent project where the highway agencies QA results past and my QC failed after just ten cycles.
It is my belief that the temperature of cement powder has a direct correlation to the temp.of concrete. What should the ideal powder temp. be when it introduced into the concrete.
I am a bridge contactor hired by a highway agency to construct a semiintregal abutment structure designed by the highway agencies consultant. This abutment is supported on caissons founded on rock and tied back with a proprietary system.Caissons are already installed and the next phase of the...
