Hello,
I am developing a die that will produce an involute interior spine die. With a die I cannot have sharp corners. Is there some kind of universal size for any radius on the tips of the spline? Everything I look at shows sharp corners. I have developed the part in Gear Trax and...
Can I stress relieve 50YF SAE 1392 and hold the hardness? Print is asking for Core hardness Rockwell B77 MIN. If so at what temp, how long? We also melonite after forming.

I have a weldment of the above parts and cannot get the balancing below .5 or below 1.
We weld the flexplate to the ring gear first in a fixture. 2nd fixture welds the 1st 2 components to a hub.
and then we weld the timing locator ring in the 3rd weld fixture. We are getting 2.41-2.61 for...
We are torquing down bolt at between 48 to 54 ft. lbs. If we are consistly getting 50 - 52 what should the breaking point be when we test them? We are also auditing torque angle. I believe that is set between 10-30 degreees. [ponder]
I am having some trouble finding info on stress relieving high carbon material? I have 1050-1055 Rb 84 min. stock. What temperature is best to take out any stresses?
WE HAVE BEEN MAKEING COLLETS OUT OF 6150. THE QUESTION CAME UP HOW TO HEAT TREAT 6150 FOR THE COLLET TO HAVE SOME FLEX. I HAV SOME OLD NOTES TO HEAT TREAT TO Rc42-46. DO I NEED TO GIVE THE HEAT TREATER ANY OTHER INSTRUCTIONS?
I have a project where we have changed from ink stamping to lasering required info on a copper plated part. The laser has been missing letters on the copper plating. I am going to work on the intensity to see if there is any difference. I have tried buffing off some of the copper which seems...
I have been trying a new process for our 1095 ring, .057 thick x 1.38 ID x 2.12 OD. We normally stress relieve on fixtures, heat treat, quench and draw. We tried stress relieving without fixtures and my ID grew to 1.140 and my OD shrunk 2.11. It was only 100 pieces but was wondering if I can...
We are currently replacing a server, and have some questions regarding copying of existing Solid Edge files from the old server. We tried this before and lost several files.

Is it possible to just name the new drive NTFS 2? (this would ensure there is not...
I am having cracking issues after heat treat and draw. Heat treating at 1550°, quench oil is at 165°, 15 second dwell, draw on flattening fixtures at 720°to obtain a C47-52 hardness. Most all of our 1095 material is not heat treated so this is new to me.
I have been playing around with heat treating 1045 material. I have gotten good results by raising the oxygen analizer to 66%. But I cannot explain why this works? I am trying to obtain a finished Rc25-32 after quench and finish machine off .015 machine stock.
I am having problems holding Rc 25-32, heat treating 1045 flame cut rings. We currently heat treat 1045 forgings with no problems. Our process is 7.875 OD x 4.5 ID x .75 thick rough:
rough machine, leaving .015 for finish machine
heat treat 1575F
draw 900-980F depending on results from HT

We have several parts in our plant that are undergoing process changes for cost savings. We are changing material to 1010 and eliminating the heat treat hardening. Instead we are going to a Liquid Salt Bath Ferritic Nitrocarburizing process (melonite). Because we have a large volume I am...
First, I need a material that can handle high heat of over 1200 F degrees in an induction heater. The material (this is being used as a safety measure) will be designed and placed between the coil and part(the part is 1022 material). The distance between part and coil is .125, so the material...
