    AC or DC for PAR36

I'm using 12v, PAR36 as emergency lights. Instaed of using the typcial bugged eyed unit i will have thefixtures mounted remote and fed through an inverter system which operates at 120v. I will be installing a transformer to step down from 120v to 12v. Can the PAR 36 operate on AC voltage?

    lightning surges/strikes

An underground duct bank consist of concrete encased PVC conduits. Is there any concern regarding lighting strikes entering the building into the electrcial equipment through the ductbank?

    BIL rating and surge protection

    1. Do the BIL levels for switchgear and transformers need to be coordinated. For example, if a switchgear is rated for 90kv BIL and the transformer is rated for 30kv BIL is the transfomer under rated? 2.Is it typical to provide surge protection on transfomers that are served on the primary from...

    Megger Test Results

    I'm reviewing results from a megger test on 600V condcutors from Phase to ground and Phase to Phase. A-G = 700Megohm B-G = 1000Megohm C-G = 800Megohm A-B = 1600Megohm B-C = 1580Megohm A-C = 1400Megohm Any idea as to why the values are different? All phase condcutors are the same length.

    underground aluminum conductors

Does anyone know of some literature that compares installing aluminum and cooper in undergroud (duct bank) installations or care to share thier thoughts and experience. I would think that alumnum would be the least desirable due to it's thermal properties compared with copper.

    cb lift truck

I thought that a cb overhead lifting device, integral with switchgear, lifts the cb out of it's cradle and is then put on a lift truck. I've been informed that a lift truck does the same thing as the overhead lifting device and is not used as a platform for teh CB once out of the cradle. Can...

copper vs. aluminum conductors in LV systems

Anyone know of a good recent article that states the pros and cons of al vs. cu conductors for lv systems? It seems that alumimum alloy condcutors are making progress in keeping up with cu conductors performance. There is also the cost savigs with copper being at a premium. In addition, anyone...

    Keeping HV away from buildings?

Does anyone know what the recommended clearances from tranmission lines are to buildings to avoid EMI. We have 115kV transmission lines at a site where we plan on building office facilities. There is concern as to interference from the 115kV transmissiin which will be less than 100'-0" away...

    generator temp rise

with a standby application, is it typical to use a temp. rise of 105 deg. C or 130 deg. C? We are concerened with the heating affects of harmonics and are considering specifying a low temperature rise for the alternator.
