Hi material and inspection experts,
SA-765 grade IV, impact test temperature is -30 deg.C in Tabel 3, ASME II, part A.
The vessel manufacturer told us that as per 6.6.1, they can do impact test for -46 deg.C.
<6.1.1 When agreed upon between the purchaser and the
producer and specified on the...
Hi dear PV experts,
Due to the small channel ID of 465 mm, we need to use a variation of the reverse flange design. Can ASME VIII-1, Appendix 2-13 for Reverse Flanges be applied to this variant?
If anyone has experience designing this type of reverse flange variation, I would appreciate your...
Hi Experts in shell & tube heat exchanger thermal design,
Kindly advise the design velocity for fluid (like cruel oil) recommended from TEMA and which para. is in TEMA.
Thanks
Dear Corrosion Experts,
A pair of flanges connection:
one is SA-105 and
another is SA-182F316L.
Spiral Wound Gasket, wounding material of SS316L winding and graphite filter. Outer ring is CS and inner ring is SS316L.
Q1, Is there the galvanic corrosion between the CS flange and SS flange?
Q2...
Hi QC experts,
I have a vendor, the nominal dished head thickness is 14 mm, after forming 7 mm, the stress calculation thickness required is 6 mm. It is ok in deign/stress calculation. But I don't believe it is a good/qualified product with reduced a half of the nominal thickness after forming...
Hi code experts,
In design view, I would not see the necessity of giving two symbols/concepts for the maximum allowable/working pressure at the design temperatures. the highest allowable design pressure shall meet the design temperatures, whatever the highest one of design temperature or the...
Hi all,
Kindly advise what is the test weight factor (not design impact factor) for davit arm of flange cover of heat exchanger or 24" manway (FPSO project) and what is the basis (induatry standards, ABS rule...)?
Thanks.
Hi
Who shall be the Auditor, Regulatory Agent to qualify ABS work quality and where can I get the link for searching the auditor?
I have a design reviewer from ABS, who commented and took the thickness (the minimum) at OD of the flange cover as the calculated thickness as per code. That shows...
Dear Experts,
ASME VIII-1 requires the bolt load design to meet the requirement ASME PCC-1 Appendix O.
UG-44(b)(2) The actual assembly bolt load (see Nonmandatory Appendix S) shall comply with ASME PCC-1, Nonmandatory Appendix O.
PCC-1 is the reference standard in ASME VIII-1, Table U-3...
Dear experts,
The super duplex 24" elbow (SA-815) will be made by plate. Question: are there any limits from a code/standard for using two weld lines on the elbow, the half welds to the half? The user wants a single weld seam, but the vendor wants to use double seams for the 24" elbow. It is not...

Hi expeprts,
For B16.5/B16.47 flanges (CS), as per UCS-66 (c), MDMT is -18 deg.C for forged condition and MDMT is -29 deg.C for fine grain practice and normalized. The questtion is that, is UCS-66 (c) applicable for the flanges design by Appendix 2? If not, using B16.47 flange or Appedix 2...
Dear experts,
What does means that 'calculated pressure" mentioned in UG-99 (c)? The Design Pressure or MAWP or MAP? I think that all of the design pressure, MAWP and MAP are "calculated presure".
My understanding is that it is dependent on the agreement between the user and manufacture, it...
Enthusiast and expert of pressure vessel design.
Let us discuss what the actual design margin is in the pressure vessel design and fabrication.
1. The constant sustained design load are the operating pressure, design pressure and MAWP in pressure vessel design.
2. In terms of primary membrane...
Hi,
Whether we shall consider MAWP for tubes in the heat exchangers design?
I don't think this is necessary, even if it is given by some softare. The reason is that the tube material is not required CA as per TEMA RCB-1.517. The tube machanical design is just based on the design pressure.

Hi,
For SA-213 T9 (P-No.5B, Group No.1) tubes, it is an 9Cr–1Mo steel. According to ASME Ⅷ-1 UCS-56 Table UCS-56-4, the tube joint needs to undergo PWHT at the minimum heat treatment temperature of 675℃.
The material of tubesheet is SA-266 Gr.3 (P-No.1, Group No.2). According to ASME Ⅷ-1...
Hi all,
Whether we need to consider using the minimum thickness = the average thickness - under tolerance as the tube thickness input in heat exchanger design if the average thickness gieven in the MDS/PDS?
