Solidworks Equivalent to AutoCAD "DIV" Command?

I have an arc and I am trying to split it into 13 segments (or place 12 points evenly spaced). Currently I draw 13 straight lines along the curve and then make them all equal to each other. Is there an easier way to do this? I was hoping there is a SolidWorks equivalent to AutoCAD's "DIV"...

    Specs for A217-WC6

I am trying to find information regarding A217-WC6. I have discovered that it is a casting spec, but I can not find any specifications. Can someone point me in the right direction and point me to a book that would list the specifications for A217 Grade WC6? I also need to know what procedures...

    Changing Drawing Paper Image

Since I installed SW2008 I noticed that drawings have a picture to make it look real. It kind of looks like crinkled paper. Where is the option to change the image used? I've looked in the help but all I can find is the background image which is behind the paper space.

Zoom to Fit Not Working With Isometric View

I was messing around with the attached part and zoom to fit is not working properly (see picture). Isometric view is not centering the view, and is instead pushing my part to the top right of the screen. This first linear pattern is pushing the model to the right side of the screen, and the...

Welding Incoloy 825 and 316 stainless steel

Is it acceptable to weld Incoloy 825 to 316 together? I know that's a broad term, but any information would be appreciated. Can anyone offer any advice on, or references for welding disimilar metals like this?

Deifne a Report -> "Exception Thrown"

I can't seem to define a report since I installed 2008. When I try to make one, I get an error that state "Exception Thrown". Anyone have a fix for this?

Howto: Apply Temperature to Entire Body

Can anyone offer some advice on how to apply a temperature to the entire part for a static study? My part is basically being placed in an oven so the temperature will be a uniform 1200°F. When I apply a thermal load it ask for faces and such. I can't figure out how to select the entire body.

    Revolve Cut A Surface

I am looking for a way to revolve cut a surface in one step? I currently create a second surface using the revolve feature, and then use trim, and then delete the trimming surface. Isn't there a simpler method?

How To: Add a variable to design table that can be used in equations.

My end goal is to add a variable in a design table that I can use in equations. The variable itself should not be in any sketch, as it's just a number (87%, 2.5, etc.). If I could find a way to insert global variables in the design table, then that would fix my problem, but it doesn't seem...

calculate intercept of two data sets

Is there a way to calculate the intercept of two data sets? Example: I have a set of data "VX" which contains 100 points marking the X Points for data set 1 and 2. I also have "VY1" which contains 100 points marking the Y points for data set 1, and "VY2" which contains 100 points marking the Y...

Create Cone From Flat Pattern or Vise Versa

I am trying to mimic the production methods from the shop to create a cone in SolidWorks 2007 SP4.0. I copied the flat pattern and would like to roll it into a cone. I was looking at the "flex" feature, but I would need to create a sort of tapered bend that I don't think it can do. I would...

    Defining New "Built in Units"

I find that I am always inserting the following definitions at the top of every document. Is there a way to set these similar to the built in units, so I don't have to do it everytime? Or are there a similar variable that I should be using instead of these? 1 in_wg := 5.2023 lb/ft^2 1 fpm :=...

    Mimic Weld Seam/Splice

I am trying to mimic the splicing of a flat piece of metal in COSMOS. Is the a standard for this type of study? They are going to weld the two pieces together and then grind it smooth to make it look solid. Does anyone have an example of this type of analysis?

Mechanical Properties of AISI 304 and 316 Stainless Steel

I am looking for the yield strength of AISI 304 and 316 stainless steel. AISI 304 seems to yield at around 30,000 psi (according COSMOSWorks, Matweb, and Efunda). I am inclined to believe this is a good number as all three suggest a yield strength about the same. AISI 316 has a different...

    Bently Nevada Proximity Probes

I am look for information for selecting and installing Bently Nevada proximity probes into 8" Dodge Sleevoil Bearings. I have a customer who speced these out by name, but can't give me any information. I did some researching on my own and found that I need the 3300 XL 8mm series, but I can't...

Displaying Yield Strength on a Stress Plot

I have a multibody part with different materials. The stress plot shows the yield strength on the axes with a red arrow. The yield strength it shows is for "Body 1". How do I change which body's yield stress is shown on the axes? How do I remove the arrow altogether? For example: say "Body...

    Treat as Remote Mass

Has anyone tried the "Treat as Remote Mass" feature? It seems to work pretty well except I keep getting a warning stating "Mesh and Model Volumes are Significantly Different". Now I understand why they would be different, since the body I treated as a remote mass is not meshed. I don't...

Calculating Pedestal Stiffness and Shaft Critical

In thread384-156111 some one said that a bump test could be used to calculate pedestal stiffness. Can some briefly explain to me how to do this? I know how to perform a bump test to get the resonant frequencies, but what do you do with the results to get a value for stiffness? If I have FEA...
