I do not understand how to Rotate Sketch entities to align with a construction line. Maybe this is something simple, but it escapes me.
For instance... if an Open Sketch has 2 circles; one of which is at the Origin. The other is some distance away in X+, Y-
A construction line is drawn at X+...

I've been working on an assembly that has multiple pivoting parts. Liken this to a folding chair.
Chair is facing right.....assembly Front view is looking into the right side of chair.
I've mated all parts via their pivot points either by Temporary Axis or inserted reference axis
and...
Is it possible to show a sheet-metal part in both its "Sheet-Metal" AND its "Flatten-Bends" states at the same time?
(not sure of the correct terminologies here...)
Multiple windows or split windows or ??
Active/inactive windows?
I've experimented with Global Variables and through trial and error have gotten them to work for what I wanted to do.
The question is: what is meant by "Global" ? Does this apply ONLY to the parts in a specific assembly ?
That seems to be the case, but it's not really defined in the Help...
Been tryin to convince myself to purchase a new Dell(?) computer to run SW07.
I don't spend countless hours at the computer designing stuff but some of what I do work on gets a bit involved with mechanisms that are more than static; so I like to run simulations whenever I can.
I've got a 3yr old...
Just curious....
Is it possible to show a light being turned on/off in an assembly ?
I've got a small electrical box with a toggle switch to control an electric motor and an LED light. Right now, the light is green; it's "ON" state.
By flipping the toggle switch, can the switch (green) be...
Is there a way to estimate cfm through an opening
vs (peak?) hp rating on a vacuum ?
For instance, a 4.5 peak hp shop vacuum connected via a standard 2" hose to a chamber that has a 6" opening at one end.
How is this measured?
The hp rating on a vacuum is theoretical at best (and most likely...
What are the advantages of an 81-piece gage-block set over a 36-piece?
Finding the sizes and quatities of blocks in each set is not a problem.....any supplier's catalog will show that.
But, is it necessary to have an 81-piece set for practical use for any dimension under say 6" ?
Seems a long...
Drawing of an 8" grinding wheel relief cut on a wood-plane blade.
In the assembly, an 8" x 1" thick Cut-Extrude was used to make the relief.
The centerline of the Cut-Extrude is inline with the edge represented by the .544 dimension shown in the top view. Only 1/2 of the 2" width has been cut...
When modelling a small bearing, been trying to figure out how to make the dimension for the placement of Plane3 from the front plane of the part equal to 1/2 the (.2362) width of the bearing. (Plane will be used to mirror the revolved cut shown on the face to make a cut on the far side)
"Top"...

SW2006
In Drawings(with Layer set to NONE); I don't see Insert-> Model Items -> Cosmetic Thread
I see Anotations and under that heading; 6 other types of Annotations.
Where is this Cosmetic Thread icon?
Also, in an Isometric view in a Drawing, are threads not able to be...
Did a search for this topic and didnt find anything.
Is there a website or can someone direct me to finding the Standard(?) dimensions for 3pt Hitches for American-made tractors?
Thnx

Been trying to figure out how to make a "bull-nose dowel" or cylindrical solid (no taper) with a full-radius on the end.
Isn't this possible without revolving a sketch or knowing the exact radius?
Seems like such a simple thing to do, yet I see no examples or explanation in 'help'.
I read...
Anyone know a good link for AGD indicator standards?
I think the one in question is a "Group 1", although unsure as to actual designation and hence the reason for the question.
The face diameter is approx 2 1/4".
When I type in AGD standards in browser, I get everything BUT what I'm looking...
Made a sheetmetal modeled part by using a "U" shaped part, then suppressing the bend process for the flat layout. Worked fine.
I'm now designing the die to make the bend(s).
Is there a way to animate this so that the process can be seen?
We're trying to come up with a way to calculate how much resultant force is produced by turning a crank.
[This looks like an engine crank and piston arrangement]
I've looked on the 'net and can't seem to find a definitive answer.
We have a diagram of a 1" radius crank going from 180deg on the...
This is a bit lengthy, but here goes.
I've run into sketch rebuild problems when changing a cut-extrude sketch's anchor point which has been established by another sketch. Specifically, I'm attempting to make a clock face ring. The numerals that do not require a "stencil" layout aren't a...
Been trying different things with Text on a flat surface.
After placing some text on a face into an existing fully defined sketch for example (to then be extruded or cut), why is there a warning that "this operation requires a fully defined sketch" ? I assumed that it was fully defined because...
Coupla questions...
1) When drawing up some #41 chain sprockets; using Circular Pattern (under SketchTools) for the tooth profile, how can you select using windowing? Seems it only allows picking one entity at a time to add to the items to pattern.
2) Is it possible to show simulation of...
I'm fairly new to SolidWorks and have had questions regarding sketch entities. I sometimes like to send them off to another helpful person so that they can see what I'm talking about.
I want to capture a picture only of a pending sketch without having to exit the sketch....which is what SW...
