Hello,
If I want to use one system to filter the same oil for 1 system to 20 micron (1000L) and another system to 40 microns (5000L). Would it only make sense to filter both systems to 20 microns or will the 20 micron filter be much, much slower at filling the system?
I want to simplify the...
Does anyone know of a standard for the % error in airgap, rotor roundness/concentricity and stator roundness/concentricity of a hydropower generator?
The only one I can find is:
CEA - Guide for erection tolerance and shaft system alignmnet.
The values seem a lot higher then what I see used...
Hello,
I have a hydropower question. Which bearing arrangement is more common in hydropower machines the combined thrust/ guide bearing under or over the rotor. I believe it is called umbrella and suspended bearing arrangements. Is one much more common then the other. I'm talking about for...
Hello,
I have another hydropower generator question. Which bearing arrangement is more common the combined thrust/ guide bearing under or over the rotor. I believe it is called umbrella and suspended bearing arrangements. Is one much more common then the other. I'm talking about for larger...
I have been to help out with some info regarding a hydropower unit.
What are they talking about when they say inertia requirement in MWs/MVA in ton m2 for a hydropower unit?
What can one do in order to meet inertia requirement?
what is a reasonable value or a upper limit value and what kind...
I tried to debate in another thread the amount of CO2 and other greenhouse gases emitted by volcanos. I have heard the arguement in many places that volcanos emits anywhere from as much to 500,000 times as much greenhouse gases as humans per year.
Does anyone know anywhere to get good data on...
OK the last thread was too long!
This isn't really a question but:
Talk among yourselves about emissions and global warming and Kyoto.
To get started:
Emissions: bad - The world should try to form a world wide treaty that includes the USA.
Global Warming: Noone knows so why argue.
Kyoto...
Finnish Engineering Students Protest High Numbers
HELSINKI (Reuters) - Finland's 40,000 engineering students walked out of their classes Wednesday to put pressure on the government to reduce the number of engineering places.
The students argue there are too many of them competing for too...
Please read the following article:

Any comments?
Will the Kyoto accord coming into effect cause the US to change its position on emissions?
I realize that many people don't believe that the US is a major polluter and that the 3rd world is...
We are putting the refurbished poles back on a hydro generator rotor. I was wondering if there is a code for the maximum deviation that can be present for the elevation/ height? Or should they be placed back at the same place for balance? We had some poles deviating more than 0.1" from the...
This was a question asked in another thread:
<<By the way how do we differentiate ourselves from an
engineer in Bangalore making $5.00 per hour? >>
It is an interesting question with some obvious answers and some maybe not so obvious.
Is there a general rule for the clearance between coils in a LV machine? Would the clearance be drastically different between a 8kV machine and a 15kV machine. Are touching coils acceptable? If the clearance is small should the gap be filled to stop corona?
I would like to hear the forums comments on the difference between a High Potential Test, Overpotential Test and Dielectric Withstand Test. I have heard a lot of people use these terms inplace of one another. Are they the same? If you could supply a description of each or let me know what...
Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if you could tell me what standard is usually used for hipot testing of generators? I'm looking for a similar standard to IEEE 43 for insulation resistance testing of generators. If it matters I'm concerned with hydroelectric generators.
Thanks,
