We are still running AutoCad 2007 and Land Desktop 2007 and both are working great. We still have Windows XP on our machines. It's the old "if it ain't broke then don't fix it" adage. We are getting ready to purchase new computers and printers and are thinking about going with newer versions...
This is a continuation of an earlier thread but with a little more information. Basically, we've got a situation with the design of a new pump station that will serve a new development with gravity sewer and that will also be handling discharge from other pump stations. These other existing...
Our firm has been asked to design a saltwater impoundment (pond) along an existing saltwater creek that will be used to hold crabs/shrimp. The pond will be approximatley 1.7 acres and 11 ft. deep. The pond will fill and drain through a single culvert connected to the creek. We'd like to...
How do you handle design of a pump station that has gravity flow plus pumped discharge from upstream pump stations?
We have (2) pump stations that pump into the gravity sewer system (an 8" pvc sewer @ 0.33% slope). The (2) existing upstream pump stations are 100 gpm each. A conservative...
We are having issues with CAD when trying to open drawings from the open icon or trying to "saveas". If we set filedia to 0 we can open from explorer. The error we are getting is:
szAppName : acad.exe szAppVer : 23.0.116.0 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000
This is...

I don't know if this is the right forum to post this tale (sorry so long)...but I'll give it a shot. I'm really just looking for different opinions/suggestions.
In 2005 a church bought an existing 10 acre plot and 6,200 square foot building to be used as a church. Prior to the purchase the...
What constitutes a high point in a water transmission line? For instance, a 24" water transmission line that is laid along relatively flat terrain, would a 12" elevation difference (peak) require an ARV, would 6", 24"? The water line in question was designed with a slope but in reality may...
A client has asked us to look at modifying an existing submersible pump station to have the FM come out of the top of the wetwell (above ground piping with check, plug, and ARV installed) and then dive back below grade. The existing setup has the 4" FM going through a valve vault. The 4" FM...
We were tasked to design a new pump station that will discharge into an existing (common) 4” forcemain that runs past the new PS site. I have checked the existing pump station upstream and with our new station running it appears that the existing pump station will be locked out. We’re not a...
We are looking at a project that will involve the analysis and rehabilitation of an existing concrete RR trestle. The client is requesting an analysis of the bridge to determine the amount (if any) of strengthening that will be required. The trestle appears to be in decent shape but there is...
Designing a second story addition to an existing residence. The structure is a typical wood frame building on CMU piers. I am considering that all of the horizontal loads (wind seismic) will be equally distributed to the piers by the diaphragm action.
This gives me a rather large lateral...
When calculating the vertical loads to a column for this load combination do you use the overturning wind moment to determine the vertical loads from wind (Mot/L=T=C)or do you use the tributary area x uplift force?
I have used the T=C from the horizontal Mot + wind area load + .6D but now I'm...
We have designed a storage tank to serve as fire protection storage for a school. Since it is for fire protection only there will be very little turnover in the tank. The tank will be filled with well water.
Should we be concerned with the water becoming stagnant, algae? Suggestions?
Thanks
In general what would you set the volume of a wet well to when using pumps with VFD's? Max pump out rate is 2500 gpm. The reason for the VFD is that the pump station receives flow from 8 pump stations and pumps directly into the headworks.
Thanks
We are having a discussion in our office on the development of pump system curves; in particular for lift stations with triplex pumps. In developing the system curve for a triplex setup, with two pumps running there seems to be a couple of schools of thought:
1. Ignore the head through the...
I am looking for information to help us layout a fire protection system for a commercial site. In particular information on locating FDC with regard to backflow prevention, PIV, etc.
I am looking for information to help us layout a fire protection system for a commercial site. In particular information on locating FDC, piping, backflow prevention, PIV, etc. Also wondering if NFPA 13 is the standard that will help.
All help is much appreciated.
We are designing a water system to provide potable and fire protection for a school. We have been given the following design criteria: for potable 150 gpm @ 60 psi and for fire protection a volume of 35000 gallons will be required. The system will have to be fed from a well with a storage tank...
