    Gas composition and GMAW

How does extra CO2 affect the GMAW process? Specifically switching to 75%-25% Ar & CO2 from 92%-8% Ar & CO2. This question also appears in "Welding, Bonding and Fastener engineering" group but I think this group may have some insight as well.

    Hail resistant steel

Is there a minimum gauge thickness that can be relied upon to resist denting by hail. I am thinking about 1" diameter as a maximum. I searched but most posts are requests for advice on how to fix the dent after it happens. Others are about the Romans ("Hail Caesar").

    Flame cut 4145

We have been requested to flame cut an odd shape from a 4" thick 4145 plate for subsequent machining. What are the preheat and post heat requirements for this kind of operation? Brad

Thread depth for Hot Dip Galv

We may be threading A36 bar, 5/8", 3/4" and 1" diameter which will then be hot dip galvanized. How much extra thread depth do I need for the galvanizing? We will be using a "Rigid 532" pipe threader with UNC dies. Is there a standard for this? Brad

    Does this material comply?

We have been asked to supply a lift lug for pipe made from CSA-G40.21-300W plate. A note on the drawing states "All materials must comply with NACE MR01013" Can anyone tell me if there is a conflict between the plate material and the NACE specification? Brad

    Bend radii conflict

I was just reviewing my recommended bend radii chart for dual certified 1/2" A36/44W plate. The values for the 2 different grades are not the same, what is acceptable practice for dual certified plates. Brad

How can I create a new layer from the command line without the dialog window opening. Can I simply type "Layer Newlayername" (I know this doesn't work, what does?). Brad

    Working normalized plate

What affect does rolling normalized 516-70 plate have on the grain structure. Will this practice defeat the purpose of normalization. The case in point is rolling 1" thick plate to an ID of 36" to create a wear pad for a pipe (AKA pipe saddles or repads). The finished wear pad would have an arc...

    Significant digits

I just read through thread 770-39236. At the end an all encompassing solution is presented except I found a hitch I'm hoping someone can solve. When using the final function complete with the formatting instructions given the significant digits are no longer presented correctly. The columns...

    Plasma cutting performance

I was reviewing the specs on an ESAB PowerCut 1500 Plasmarc. The capacity is noted as 1 1/2" Manual and 3/4" mechanized. Why would the performance be cut in half when using a machine torch rather than a hand torch. If it's a typo then they (ESAB) have the same typo for all Powercut units.

    How long is the text

I am trying to print information to a form which has a certain width, I am using excel so how do I make sure that the text doesn't extend out of its boundary. I was originally going to use the excel LEN(A1) function but when printing, the letter "I" takes up less space than "W" therefore the...

    Help with ShowOpen() by CajunCenturion

I searched the archives and found function ShowOpen() and function ShowSave() by CajunCenturion in thread766-100581 (Aug 2004). Both work great with a slight modification; .tLng_hWndOwner = Me.hWnd .tLng_hInstance = App.hInstance must read .tLng_hWndOwner = Application.hWnd...
